What a day for the Glenmoore Stableboys! They shellacked the Kimberton
Firefighters pitching for 11 runs while Bill Bonham(3-0), with relief help
from Paul Reuschel, surrendered 2 runs to Kimberton.
Glenmoore jumped on top to stay in the 4th inning scoring 3 runs on 3 hits.
After an out was recorded, Bake McBride initiated the scoring spurt when he
delivered a single. Wayne Twitchell then let loose a wild pitch. Richie
Hebner then drew a walk. Steve Ontiveros followed and he drew a walk to load
the bases. Willie Montanez came to the plate and lined a single. Merv
Rettenmund added his contribution to the rally and hit a sacrifice fly. Ted
Sizemore followed next and he stroked a base-hit. Glenmoore finished with 12
hits while Kimberton ended up with 6.
The loss was charged to Twitchell(0-1). He allowed a few too many baserunners
giving up 8 hits and 4 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.

Mark Lemongello pitched 9 strong innings and designated hitter Terry Whitfield
had 2 base hits as the Honey Brook Beekeepers bested the Eagle Eagles 3-1
at Hickory Park.
Lemongello(1-1) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't allow much,
just 4 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 5.91 to 3.66.
Honey Brook had a total of 9 hits for the game.
Don Stanhouse(1-1) was the loser. 'Thankfully we got ourselves a win',
Lemongello said. 'It's great to be back on the winning side of things.'

First baseman John Stearns had 2 base hits and Joe Niekro had a strong outing
at Hopewell Field as the Chester Springs team beat the Guthriesville
Golddiggers 3-1.
Guthriesville never recovered after Chester Springs took the lead in the top
of the 3rd inning scoring one runner using 2 hits. After two outs Lenny
Randle delivered a base-hit. Randle took off for second and slid in with a
stolen base. Rennie Stennett then ripped a single. Dave Rader stepped in
and he reached on an error. That was all Niekro(2-0) needed. Chester
Springs rapped out 10 hits for the night.
Larry Christenson(0-3) took the loss. He gave up 8 hits and 2 walks in 6 and
1/3 innings. 'He was moving it around and spotting it very well.' Gary Scott
said. Niekro pitched a great game. He deserves all the credit.'

Vic Harris connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI at Four Dogs Field as the
Elverson Squires beat the Marshallton Mad Hatters 6-4.
Doug Rau(1-0) gave a fine effort for Elverson. He went 8 innings allowing 7
hits and 1 walk. Marshallton tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Mike Garman preserved the game for Rau, recording his his 3rd. J.R.
Richard(1-1) ended up with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 13 hits and 3
walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Mike Schmidt hit one over the fence and had 5 RBI as the Elverson Squires
really laid it on the Marshallton Mad Hatters 19-8.
Schmidt provided the offensive punch. He lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run in the 2nd inning, tripled plating two runs in the 7th inning
and lashed a single which brought home a run in the 8th inning. Elverson
bats were hot in the 2nd inning when they had 8 runs on 7 hits. The Elverson
offense man-handled the Marshallton pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the
9 innings.
The victory went to Nino Espinosa(2-0) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 8
runs. Charlie Williams(1-1) absorbed the loss. Schmidt was in a good mood
after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the ball real well now. I made
some adjustments last week and they are paying off. That's what this game is
about. making adjustments as the season goes along.'

The Lionville ballclub and the Devault Dynamiters locked up in an exciting
one-run game at Foster Field. The final score was the Lionville ballclub 7,
the Devault Dynamiters 6 in 17 innings.
Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. Lionville came out the
victor in the 17th inning. After an out was recorded, Ted Simmons opened up
the rally as he laced a base-hit. Jerry Morales followed and he hit a
single. Rick Sawyer then had one get away for a wild pitch. Davey Johnson
was up next and he doubled. This was a game of many highs and lows for the
home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.
The win was credited to Don Collins(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs.
The losing pitcher was Sawyer(0-1) in relief.
