Ron Cey slammed a homerun and had 4 RBI as the Marshallton Mad Hatters bested
the Kimberton Firefighters 10-5 at Kimberton Fairground.
Cey enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He blasted a two-run home run in the
3rd inning, delivered a one-base hit plating two runs in the 7th inning and
smacked a single in the 8th inning. Offensively, Marshallton was a
juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings.
Bob Shirley(3-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 5 runs. The loss was charged to Eric Rasmussen(1-2). Marshallton
knocked him around a bit, as he gave up 7 runs in 6 innings.
'Ahhh, how sweet it is,' John Young sighed. 'That win feels like a tall, cool
drink of water after spending far too much time in the desert lately.'

In a good matchup it was the Devault Dynamiters 10, the Honey Brook Beekeepers
8 at Great Valley Stadium.
In the bottom of the 7th inning Devault went on top for good when they came up
with 3 runs on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Gary Carter
who thrilled the crowd when he slapped a base-hit bringing home two
baserunners. Honey Brook was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5
separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that
pitching is also needed to win ballgames.
The win was credited to Rick Sawyer(1-2) who went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 2
runs. Santo Alcala(2-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed 3 hits and no
walks in 1 inning.

Second baseman Rennie Stennett had 3 base hits as the Chester Springs team won
a dandy at Historic Village Park over the Elverson Squires, 3-2.
The game was won by Chester Springs when they scored a run in the bottom of
the 9th inning. Rick Monday reached on an error. Gary Thomasson stepped
into the batter's box and he laced a one-base hit making Chester Springs the
victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Chester Springs
finished with just 6 hits in the victory.
Charlie Hough(1-0) went 2 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Doug
Rau(2-1) suffered the loss. He gave up 3 runs and 6 hits in 8 innings.

The Guthriesville Golddiggers finally stopped their 6-game slide with the victory
and got by the Glenmoore Stableboys at Hopewell Field. The final score was 6-4.
Guthriesville tallied 3 runs in the 7th inning when they came up with 3 base
hits. After two were out Pat Rockett keyed the rally when he stroked a
base-hit. Davey Lopes stepped up next and he drew a walk. Don Kessinger
then ripped a base-knock. Kessinger took second on the throw. Keith
Hernandez was up next and he stroked a single. Hernandez swiped second base.
Both teams totaled 12 hits on the night.
The victory went to Clay Carroll(3-0) who went 2 and 2/3 innings, allowing no
runs. The losing pitcher was Pedro Borbon(0-1) in relief. He allowed 2 runs
and 2 hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.
'We really needed this win' said Gary Scott. 'That first drink of water at
the end of a drought sure does taste good!'
