Center fielder George Hendrick had 4 hits and 3 RBI and John Candelaria reeled
off a total of 10 strikeouts as the Kimberton Firefighters topped the
Marshallton Mad Hatters 6-0 at Kimberton Fairgound.
 
Candelaria(3-3) was simply too much for the Marshallton batters.  He didn't
give up much, just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 5.34
to 4.12.  Kimberton had a total of 12 hits for the game.  
 
Paul Moskau(1-2) was hit with the loss.  He was unable to control the
Kimberton offense and allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
 
'Everything felt great' Candelaria said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I
could throw it by everybody tonight.'

In a game at Great Valley Stadium the Devault Dynamiters got by the Honey
Brook Beekeepers 7-4.
 
Tommy John(3-3) gave a fine effort for Devault.  He was reached for 7 hits and
1 walk in 8 innings.  Honey Brook tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.  
 
John got relief help from Bruce Sutter who gained credit for his 6th save.
Ray Burris(0-5) was given the loss.  'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly
mental,' Chris McLaughlin said.  'It's bad enough when the other team beats
you, but when you start beating yourselves, that's really bad.'

The Chester Springs team nipped the Elverson Squires in 12 innings 3-2 at
Historic Village Park in a hard fought contest.
 
The game was deadlocked at 2 after nine full innings.  Chester Springs ended
up winning it in the 12th inning.  After an out was recorded, Jerry Royster
laced a single.  Jim Ghoulach then called for a steal which was successful.
Larry Bowa then slapped a base-hit making Chester Springs the victors to the
delight of the home town faithful.  Chester Springs had 9 hits for the night
while Elverson had 6.  
 
The win went to Bo McLaughlin(3-0) who allowed no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.
Mike Garman(4-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He was a hard-luck loser
as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.  
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT EAGLE

Don Sutton allowed Bob Phillips to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Pete Rose had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at Hickory Park as the Eagle Eagles
beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers 5-3.
 
Eagle tallied 2 runs in the 5th inning when they came up with 3 base hits.
The biggest moment was provided by Rose who came through for the home fans
when he stroked a base-hit bringing in two baserunners.  Eagle had 11 hits
for the night.  
 
Sutton(2-1) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. The loss was
charged to Steve Rogers(3-1).  He allowed 11 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.
 
LIONVILLE AT GLENMOORE, 1st

In a good matchup it was the Glenmoore Stableboys 7, the Lionville ballclub 5
in 12 innings at Bentley Stadium.
 
The score was tied at 4 after nine. Glenmoore won the hard fought contest in
the 12th inning.  Ted Sizemore led off and he singled.  After an out was
recorded, Warren Cromartie came to the plate and slapped a one-base hit.
After another out, Willie Montanez came to bat and drew a walk.  Johnny Bench
followed and he rifled a three-run blast giving Glenmoore the win as 85 happy
fans joyfully celebrated.  This was a game of many highs and lows for the
home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.  
 
Gene Garber(3-0) got the win allowing 3 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings. Craig
Swan(2-2) took the loss in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 1
hit and 1 walk.
 
LIONVILLE AT GLENMOORE, 2nd

First baseman Davey Johnson went deep and had 4 RBI as the Lionville club
defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys 10-4 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Johnson had a big day with his bat.  He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st
inning, lined a single in the 3rd inning and tripled which was good for two
runs in the 7th inning.  Lionville banged out 13 hits on the night.  
 
Steve Carlton(4-2) went 7 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Bob
Owchinko(3-2) was the loser.  Lionville knocked him around a bit, as he gave
up 8 runs in 6 innings.
