Tom Seaver tossed a complete game and Willie McCovey had 2 base hits at
Historic Village Park as the Chester Springs team beat the Kimberton
Firefighters 4-3.
 
Chester Springs had 3 runs cross the plate in the 3rd inning.  The critical
plate appearance was by Larry Bowa who brought the crowd to their feet when
he bombed a two-run dinger.  Kimberton threatened in the 9th but Chester
Springs was able to put down the rally.  
 
The win went to Seaver(1-2) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Fred Norman(1-2)
was tagged with the loss.

In a tight game it was the Marshallton Mad Hatters 4, the Glenmoore Stableboys
2 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Marshallton scored 3 runs in the decisive 3rd inning when they had 5 base
hits.  That early run support was enough for Tom Underwood(2-0) and
Marshallton.  Glenmoore tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
 
Rollie Fingers preserved the game for Underwood, recording his his 5th. Bill
Bonham(3-1) ended up with the loss.  Barry Bentley was reflective after the
loss, 'We should have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes.
Son-of-a-gun, that added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'

Bill Russell had 4 hits at Hickory Park as the Devault Dynamiters beat the
Eagle Eagles 4-3.
 
The game was decided in the 9th inning.  Gary Carter delivered a solo blast.
Mike Champion was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.  One out
later, Russell came up and he doubled.  Devault managed 10 hits in their
victory.  
 
Tommy John(2-2) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. John was
helped out by Bruce Sutter who recorded his 4th save.  Randy Moffitt(2-2) was
given the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run and 5 hits in 2 and 2/3 innings.
 
'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said John, 'I was just
giving us a chance to win.'

The Elverson Squires cruised to a 10-4 victory over the Guthriesville
Golddiggers at French Creek Park.
 
Ed Halicki(1-2) struggled at times, but was good enough to get the victory.
He gave up 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.  For the game Elverson
out-hit Guthriesville 15 to 11.  
 
Buzz Capra(1-1) was charged with the loss.  By surrending 8 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings his ERA jumped from 4.76 to 7.41.
 
LIONVILLE AT HONEY BROOK

Joe Sambito had a strong outing and Greg Luzinski hit 2 doubles as the
Lionville club defeated the Honey Brook Beekeepers in 13 innings 4-3
at The Nest.
 
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.  Lionville ended up
winning it in the 13th inning.  Andre Dawson drew a walk.  Gene Clines was
next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.  One out later, Dan Spillner
stepped up to the mound and he threw a wild pitch.  Ken Reitz followed and he
ripped a base-knock.  Fernando Gonzalez stepped into the box and doubled.
Lionville had 16 hits for the night while Honey Brook had 9.  
 
The victory went to Max Leon(2-1) who went 3 innings, allowing no runs.
Spillner(0-2) was the loser in relief.
