The Chester Springs club tallied 5 runs in the 1st inning and easily topped
the Kimberton Firefighters; the final score was 7-2.
 
Chester Springs wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
tallied 5 runs on 5 hits.  That early scoring held up.  Chester Springs
managed 9 hits in their victory.  
 
The win went to Phil Niekro(2-1) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Jim
Lonborg(2-1) took the loss.
 
MARSHALLTON AT GLENMOORE

Floyd Bannister allowed only 2 hits resulting in a big goose egg on the
scoreboard for Marshallton and center fielder Barry Bonnell had 2 base hits
as the Glenmoore Stableboys defeated the Marshallton Mad Hatters 2-0 
at Bentley Stadium.
 
Bannister(1-3) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for
the Marshallton batters.  He allowed only 2 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings
improving his ERA from 7.36 to 4.94.  Glenmoore had 9 hits for the afternoon.
 
The losing pitcher was Eddie Solomon(1-1).  'Bannister pitched a gem of a
game', John Young recounted.  'He kept our batters off balance the entire
game.'

Second baseman Dave Parker collected 2 extra-base hits as the Eagle Eagles
beat the Devault Dynamiters in 12 innings by a score of 8-7.
 
Both teams were tied at 7 runs apiece after nine innings.  Eagle came out the
victor in the 12th inning.  After two outs Pete Rose drew a walk.  Larry
Biittner stepped up to the plate and he laced a one-base hit.  Dave Roberts
then lined a base-hit giving Eagle the win and sending the home town fans
into a frenzy.  The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5
times.  
 
Dick Ruthven(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 4 innings. Rich
Gossage(2-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.  By giving up 2 runs in 3
and 2/3 innings his ERA increased from 2.76 to 3.15.

The Guthriesville Golddiggers edged the Elverson Squires at French Creek Park
4-3.
 
Guthriesville set the tone of the game in the first inning scoring 2 runners
on 2 hits.  The big moment was provided by Cesar Cedeno who quieted the home
crowd when he smashed a two-run homer.  Elverson threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.  
 
The win was credited to Larry Christenson(1-4) who went 6 and 2/3 innings
allowing 1 run. Kent Tekulve recorded his 3rd save.  The loss was charged to
Bob Forsch(1-2).  
 
'It was a tough one to lose' said John Carney 'We'll get them next time out.'
 
LIONVILLE AT HONEY BROOK

Jerry Koosman retired 10 batters on strikeouts and left fielder Dusty Baker
cracked a homer at The Nest where the Honey Brook Beekeepers beat the
Lionville ballclub 5-4.
 
Koosman(2-1) gave Honey Brook a solid outing.  He went 8 innings and surrended
up 9 hits and 2 walks.  Honey Brook banged out 10 hits on the afternoon.
 
Joe Kerrigan was credited with his 2nd save.  Randy Jones(1-1) was given the
loss.  Koosman was jubilant in the hometown clubhouse, 'It was a lot of fun
out there.  The fans gave me a lot of support as did my teammates.  We got
the victory and I'll sure take 10 strikeouts anytime!'
