One run was the difference at Bentley Stadium as the Glenmoore Stableboys
defeated the Devault Dynamiters in 14 innings 4-3.
 
The score was tied at 3 after nine.  Glenmoore was victorious in the 14th
inning.  Bake McBride ripped a single.  McBride was safe at second on a
stolen base.  Warren Cromartie was next to the plate, but was promptly struck
out.  Johnny Bench followed and he was walked intentionally.  Glenmoore
continued their aggressive style with another stolen base.  Richie Hebner
added to the uprising and laced a base-knock making Glenmoore victorious to
the delight of the the home town crowd.  Glenmoore had 15 hits for the night.
 
The victory went to Gary Lavelle(1-2) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs.
Butch Metzger(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He surrendered 1 run
and 3 hits in 2 innings.
 
KIMBERTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Cesar Cedeno left the yard at Hopewell Field as the Guthriesville Golddiggers
beat the Kimberton Firefighters 2-0.
 
Steve Rogers(3-0) gave Guthriesville a solid outing.  He allowed 5 hits and 5
walks in 6 and 1/3 innings lowering his ERA to 3.02.  Kimberton tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  
 
Clay Carroll was credited with his 1st save.  John Candelaria(2-3) was the
loser.  He allowed 2 runs and 5 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Art Howe cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Marshallton Mad Hatters
defeated the Eagle Eagles 12-8 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Howe was spectacular at the plate.  The hometown fans showed their
appreciation with a standing ovation his last time at bat.  He delivered a
one-base hit which scored a run in the 1st inning, lined a base-hit knocking
in a run in the 4th inning, cracked a two-run shot in the 6th inning and
lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 8th inning.  A wild and woolly affair,
this game saw the lead change 5 times.  
 
Odell Jones(2-0) went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Jones was
helped out by Buddy Schultz who recorded his 2nd save.  The loss was charged
to Dick Ruthven(1-2) in relief.  He was not very effective, surrendering 4
runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.  
 
Howe was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the ball
real well now.  I made some adjustments last week and they are paying off.
That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes along.'
 
HONEY BROOK AT ELVERSON

The Honey Brook Beekeepers nipped the Elverson Squires 4-3 at French Creek
Park in a hard fought contest.
 
Santo Alcala(2-0) delivered a fine performance for Honey Brook.  He went 7
innings surrendering 7 hits and 5 walks and allowed 2 gopher balls lowering
his ERA from 5.02 to 4.64.  Elverson proved to be no trouble in the bottom of
the 9th.  
 
Joe Kerrigan preserved the game for Alcala, recording his his 3rd.  Dave
Heaverlo(1-1) was charged with the loss in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 3
hits in 2 and 1/3 innings.  
 
'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his
best stuff,' Chris McLaughlin said after the game.  'Alcala did not have
command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to
pitch!'
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT LIONVILLE

The Chester Springs team toppled the Lionville ballclub 8-4 at Foster Field.
 
Lionville never recovered after Chester Springs took the lead in the 6th
inning as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits.  The big moment was provided by
Gary Thomasson who quieted the crowd when he cleared the fences for a two-run
home run.  Chester Springs had 11 hits overall, while Lionville had 7.  
 
Joe Niekro(3-0) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings.
Charlie Hough got the save, his 5th.  The losing pitcher was Bruce
Kison(0-2).
