Ken Griffey had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Marshallton Mad Hatters defeated the
Glenmoore Stableboys by a score of 10-5 at Four Dogs Field.
In the 2nd inning Marshallton scored 4 runs with the help of 3 hits. The key
at-bat was by Griffey who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he
banged out a single bringing home two baserunners. Marshallton had a total
of 12 hits for the game.
The win went to Tom Underwood(4-0) who allowed 2 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Rob Dressler was credited with his 1st save. Frank Lacorte(2-2) was tagged
with the loss. His biggest problem was control as he allowed 5 walks in 2
and 2/3 innings.

Jose Cardenal launched 3 homeruns at Kimberton Fairground where the Chester
Springs ballclub beat the Kimberton Firefighters by the score of 6-5.
The game was won by Chester Springs with a run in the top of the 9th inning.
Cardenal cracked a solo homerun. Two outs later Mike Jorgensen came to the
plate and laced a one-base hit. Rennie Stennett got his chance to keep
things going, but he went down on strikes. Chester Springs out-hit Kimberton
for the game, 12 hits to 8.
Tom Seaver(5-2) went 8 innings allowing 5 runs for the win. Seaver got help
from Charlie Hough who was credited with his 10th save. Don Carrithers(1-2)
was the loser in relief.
Cardenal was in a good mood after the game, 'I'm just seeing and hitting the
ball real well now. I made some adjustments last week and they are paying
off. That's what this game is about. making adjustments as the season goes
along.'

Jose Cruz had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at Kimberton Fairground as the Kimberton
Firefighters beat the Chester Springs team in 13 innings by the count of
6-5.
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings. Kimberton came out
the victor in the 13th inning. Tom Hutton drew a walk. Mick Kelleher was
next and he ripped a base-hit, and an error was also committed. Cruz then
delivered a one-base hit giving Kimberton the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd. Kimberton had 16 hits overall, while Chester Springs had
10.
Skip Lockwood(1-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 4 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Bob Moose(1-1) suffered the loss in relief. He was a
hard-luck loser, pitching 4 innings and not allowing an earned run.

In an entertaining game at Great Valley Stadium the final score was the
Devault Dynamiters 8, the struggling Eagle Eagles 5.
Dave Kingman enjoyed a big day at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the
7th inning and doubled plating two runs in the 8th inning. Devault rapped
out 10 hits for the afternoon.
Bruce Sutter(3-1) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory.
Randy Moffitt(3-3) was hit with the loss in relief. He got hammered,
allowing 6 hits and 3 walks in 2 innings.
Devault now has a record of 24-21. With the loss, the Eagle ballclub's record
is 23-23.
GUTHRIESVILLE AT ELVERSON

Mike Schmidt went deep and had 2 RBI and Ed Halicki struck out 10 batters as
the Elverson Squires defeated the Guthriesville Golddiggers by the score of
2-1 at French Creek Park.
Halicki(3-5) was indeed brilliant as he hand-cuffed the Guthriesville offense.
He didn't give up much, just 5 hits and no walks in 9 innings dropping his
ERA from 4.76 to 4.20. Elverson took care of Guthriesville with no trouble
in the 9th.
Andy Messersmith(2-5) was given the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing 8
hits and 2 walks. Halicki was obviously very pleased with his performance in
the aftermath of the game, 'It was just one of those games where everything
worked. My arm felt great, heck, I could have pitched another two or three
innings. I only hope that I can do it again next time out!'

The Honey Brook Beekeepers pitching coach might be looking for a new job soon.
His team allowed 12 runs while Burt Hooton(6-2)with relief help surrendered
2 runs to Honey Brook in a 12-2 laugher of a win by Lionville.
Chris Speier had a good day at the plate. He doubled which plated a run in
the 6th inning, lofted a three-run bomb in the 8th inning and doubled in the
9th inning. Overall Lionville out-hit Honey Brook 16 to 6.
Ray Burris(2-6) ended up with the loss. 'I was really seeing the ball today,'
Speier said 'I wish it was always this easy.'

Goodness - Chris Speier continues to be a revelation! Eddie almost goes 5-for-5. The Nest felt nice and cozy this afternoon. Boy, McLaughlin sure had the hook out quick for Burris. And he left Knowles out there to get ripped way longer than I would have.

defeated the Guthriesville Golddiggers by the score of 4-0 at Four Dogs

Strom(4-3) was very good in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing
just 4 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 4.95 to 4.04.
Marshallton had a total of 8 hits for the game.
Jim Kaat(2-5) was the loser. With this win, Marshallton has a 26-20 record.
They have been 6-4 lately. Guthriesville continued their losing ways and
their record is now 13-31, worst in the league. They are 2-8 in their last
ten games.

Glenmoore Stableboys beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers by the score of
5-0.
Rhoden(3-1) was solid in the win. He didn't give up much, just 4 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 3.25 to 2.45. Glenmoore rapped out
10 hits for the afternoon.
The losing pitcher was Doc Medich(2-2). He surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk in 5
and 1/3 innings.

The Kimberton Firefighters edged the Chester Springs ballclub in 16 innings at
Kimberton Fairground by the score of 5-4.
The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Kimberton won the game
in the 16th inning. Pepe Mangual drew a walk. Frank Taveras came to the
plate and laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bill Madlock then reached on an error.
Madlock was running on the next pitch and he stole second. Dale Murphy
stepped into the box and hit a sacrifice fly resulting in an exciting win for
Kimberton and a wild post-game celebration by the home town fans. Kimberton
had 16 hits overall, while Chester Springs had 12.
Steve Stone(2-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 5 innings. Dale
Murray(0-1) was given the loss in relief. He allowed no hits and 1 walk in
1/3 of an inning.

Dave Kingman blasted 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Devault Dynamiters
defeated the Eagle Eagles 9-5 at Great Valley Stadium.
Kingman enjoyed a big day at the plate. He smashed a two-run homer in the 1st
inning and clubbed a solo home run in the 8th inning. Devault had 14 hits
for the game and Eagle had 8.
The winning pitcher was Butch Metzger(2-1) who allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3
innings. Rick Reuschel(4-4) was the losing pitcher. He got hit hard,
allowing 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

beat the Elverson Squires 4-1.
Elverson was unable to recover after Lionville went ahead in the 3rd inning
scoring a single run using 3 hits. Willie Davis slapped a one-base hit but was
caught stealing. Two outs later Joe Morgan stepped in and belted a solo
home run. Lionville managed 10 hits in their victory.
Jones(9-0) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. Jim Barr(4-5)
ended up with the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 9 hits in 7 and 2/3
innings.

Gary Nolan came through with a solid 9 innings as the Marshallton Mad Hatters
outscored the Guthriesville Golddiggers 5-1.
Marshallton jumped on top to stay in the 2nd inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.
After an out was recorded, Joe Wallis started the rally when he lashed a
single. After another out, Roger Metzger stepped up to the plate and he
reached on an error. Bill Buckner then doubled. That scoring would be all
that was needed. Marshallton had 10 hits for the night.
The win went to Nolan(4-3) who allowed 1 run in the game. The loss was charged
to Steve Rogers(2-5). He pitched 8 innings giving up 10 hits and 1
walk.
When questioned about his counterpart after the game, Rogers was lavish in his
praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we were going to be in for a long
night. Nolan brought his 'A' game with him - he had good stuff and was able
to spot it perfectly. He probably only made one or two bad pitches the
entire game!

Shortstop Dave Concepcion had 2 base hits as the Glenmoore Stableboys defeated
the Honey Brook Beekeepers by a score of 4-2 at The Nest.
Glenmoore came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th inning
scoring 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Johnny Bench started the inning off
right when he doubled. Richie Hebner stepped into the batter's box and he
drew a walk. After an out was recorded, McBride came to the plate and
suprised everyone by stealing home. Santo Alcala then threw one that got by
the catcher for a passed ball. After another out, Roy Staiger came up and he
delivered a single. Glenmoore finished with 10 hits while Honey Brook ended
up with 7.
The winning pitcher was Gary Lavelle(2-0) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 2/3
innings. Gene Garber recorded his 7th save. Pete Falcone(3-6) took the loss.

Firefighters beat the Chester Springs club 2-0.
John Candelaria(7-0) had a strong outing. He didn't allow much, just 5 hits
and 2 walks in 8 innings lowering his ERA to 2.20. Both teams finished the
game with 5 hits.
Skip Lockwood preserved the game for Candelaria, recording his his 9th. Will
McEnaney(0-2) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning
allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.

Tommy John had a complete game at Great Valley Stadium where the Devault
Dynamiters beat the Eagle Eagles by the score of 5-1.
Devault scored the winning runs in the 8th inning when they scored 4 runs on 2
hits. The highlight belonged to Larry Parrish who thrilled the crowd when he
cleared the fences for a two-run home run. Devault finished with 9 hits in
the victory.
The winning pitcher was John(3-3) who allowed 1 run for the game. Ramon
Hernandez(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 4 runs and 4
hits in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Center fielder Willie Davis had 3 base hits as the Lionville ballclub beat the
Elverson Squires in 12 innings by a score of 7-3.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Lionville ended up
winning it in the 12th inning. The big moment was provided by Joe Morgan who
silenced the stadium when he launched a Grand Slam homerun. For the game
Lionville out-hit Elverson 13 to 5.
Ken Sanders(1-1) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Elias Sosa(1-2)
absorbed the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow
an earned run in his 2 and 1/3 innings of work.
