George Foster had 2 base hits as the Eagle Eagles defeated the reeling Honey
Brook Beekeepers by a score of 6-4 at Hickory Park.
 
Honey Brook was unable to recover after Eagle went ahead in the bottom of the
2nd inning as they scored 2 runs on 2 base hits.  Eagle had just 6 hits for
the afternoon.  
 
The win went to Don Stanhouse(1-2) who allowed 4 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Gene Pentz earned the save, his 1st.  Pete Falcone(3-5) was the losing
pitcher.  He had trouble throwing strikes and issued 8 walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.

943 fans were treated to a fine game at Four Dogs Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Marshallton Mad Hatters won by
the slimmest of margins, 4-3.
 
Marshallton scored 3 runs in the decisive 3rd inning.  After an out was
recorded, Ken Griffey got things rolling when he stroked a one-base hit.
Marty Perez was next and he drew a walk.  Ron Cey then launched a three-run
homer.  Elverson threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.  
 
The win was credited to Gary Nolan(3-3) who went 7 innings allowing 3 runs.
Adrian Devine gained credit for his 5th save.  The loss was charged to Bob
Forsch(2-2).  
 
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT GLENMOORE

Phil Niekro pitched a complete game shutout and Hector Cruz hit a homerun and
had 2 RBI at Bentley Stadium as the Chester Springs ballclub belted the
Glenmoore Stableboys by the count of 10-0.
 
Niekro(4-2) was in control of the game from the outset.  He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 5 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from
2.93 to 2.56.  Chester Springs totaled 13 hits on the afternoon.  
 
Dennis Lewallyn(0-1) took the loss.  He surrended 4 homeruns in his 4 and 2/3
innings.  Chester Springs now has a record of 21-18.  With the loss,
Glenmoore has a record of 5-5 lately, 17-18 overall.
 
KIMBERTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Davey Lopes had 3 base hits and Andy Messersmith pitched a complete game as
the Guthriesville Golddiggers beat the Kimberton Firefighters by a score of 
8-3.
 
Guthriesville jumped on top to stay in the 4th inning plating an isolated run.
Enos Cabell drew a walk.  Champ Summers stepped into the batter's box and he
laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Lou Brock then ripped a single.  Brock stole
second with some aggressive base running.  Guthriesville managed 16 hits in
their victory.  
 
Messersmith(2-4) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. The
losing pitcher was Jim Lonborg(3-4).  He surrendered 8 runs in 5 and 2/3
innings and saw his ERA increase from 3.33 to 4.14.  
 
 
DEVAULT AT LIONVILLE

The Devault Dynamiters and the Lionville club locked up in an exciting one-run
game at Foster Field.  The final score was the Devault Dynamiters 3, the
Lionville club 2.
 
Lionville was unable to claim the lead after Devault went ahead in the top of
the 5th inning scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits.  Devault finished
with 9 hits in the victory.  
 
The winning pitcher was Lynn McGlothen(3-4) who allowed no runs in 6 and 1/3
innings. Bruce Sutter preserved the game for McGlothen, recording his his
8th.  Steve Carlton(5-2) was given the loss.  
 
The Devault ballclub's record now stands at 18-19.  With this loss, Lionville
has a 6-4 record of late, 27-11 overall.
