5/21/76: Lionville Outlasts Devault, 10-9, in 12

Tiger-Cats manager Jon Brams:
While last night's game was improbable, this one made that one look semi-normal. First, the wind was blowing out. Morgan's moonshot leading off the bottom of the 1st set the tone. 6 more guys would drop bombs. We had more hits -21 - and gave up more hits - 16 - than in any other game so far. Matlack wasn't himself at all. He had terrible stuff and we pounded him, but he somehow found himself in position to get a win before we managed to tie it with 4 straight hits in the 8th.

Then I got thrown out of the game when Milbourne was called out on a play at the plate that would have ended it in the 11th. An atrocious call IMO, Sam Martin! Then I compounded that screw-up by telling my bench coach he could move Bull to first, put Wynn into left, and have Milbourne be the DH to start the 12th. Hello - the DH rule doesn't allow that - Martin had that right. So Milbourne ended up playing 1st, a position, he's never played in his life. Fortunately, he didn't need to do anything out there, and then Willie and Joe bailed me/us out, with Joe's game-winning single his 5th hit (!) of the night. And all that happened in a shade over 3 hours!

5/20/76: Lionville Turns Back Chester Springs, 8-7, in 12

Tiger-Cats manager Jon Brams:
Fantastic game! Really clutch hitting. Randy didn't have his best stuff, and I stuck with him too long, but the guys never stopped battling and eventually bailed me out. Kenny Reitz was mired in a long slump, and his average had dipped below .200. There was every reason to send up Sperring or Martin to pinch-hit, but I'm so glad I didn't. Kenny tore the cover off the ball. I'm really happy for him. Ghoulach's guys gave us a really tough series, and it's great we could finally steal one.

and he drew a walk. Larry Bowa stepped into the box and singled. Bowa took
second on the throw. Rick Monday added to the rally and was walked
intentionally to load the bases. Charlie Hough, after tossing a perfect
ninth, was credited with his 7th save.

The winning pitcher was Joe Niekro(4-0) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Ken
Sanders(0-1) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits
in 2/3 of an inning.

Jim Ghoulach was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last
at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there?
You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what
makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over
'til its over.'

5/19/76: Chester Springs Overcomes Lionville, 4-3

Tiger-Cats manager Jon Brams:
Ken Sanders was due for a bad outing. Too bad it had to be a blown save. But this one is on me - I didn't pick up on Ken's fatigue. Ghoulach's guys are pretty good with the glove - Bowa and Monday each made great plays against us in the field. We left too many guys on base. Been doing that a lot lately. We're in danger of being swept for the first time in a series of longer than two games. We need a stopper. How about that Randy Jones? Works for me!
