May 13, 1976 Recaps

EAGLE AT ELVERSON

In a thrilling finish the Elverson Squires (14-14) pulled off the win
over the Eagle Eagles (14-15) by a score of 7-5 at French Creek Park.
 
Elverson erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs
using 2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Joe Ferguson opened up the rally as
he hit a single.  Valentine was safe on a stolen base.  Tim Foli then lifted
one out of the park for a two run home run giving Elverson the win much to
the delight of the home town crowd.  Elverson rapped out 12 hits for the
afternoon.  
 
Dave Tomlin(1-0) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Bill
Atkinson(0-1) suffered the loss in relief.  He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk
in 3 innings.
 
MARSHALLTON AT HONEY BROOK

In a game at The Nest the Marshallton Mad Hatters (14-15) got by the
Honey Brook Beekeepers (16-12) by the score of 7-4.
 
Marshallton scored 3 runs in the decisive 2nd inning when they came up with 3
base hits.  The key at-bat was by Ron Hodges who helped quiet the crowd when
he blasted a two-run home run.  Marshallton had a total of 10 hits for the
game.  
 
The winning pitcher was Dave Giusti(2-1) who allowed no runs in 4 and 2/3
innings. Rawly Eastwick gained credit for his 6th save.  Santo Alcala(0-1)
took the loss in relief.  
 
 
GLENMOORE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Left fielder Jose Cardenal had 4 hits at Historic Village Park as the Chester
Springs (14-15) team beat the Glenmoore Stableboys (12-14) in 13 innings
by the count of 9-8.
 
The score was tied at 5 after nine.  Chester Springs came out on top in the
13th inning.  John Stearns slapped a base-hit, and an error was also
committed.  After an out was recorded, Rick Monday came to bat and was walked
intentionally.  Bo McLaughlin then uncorked a wild one that found its way to
the backstop making Chester Springs the winners and sending the 898 fans home
happy.  Despite losing, Glenmoore out-hit Chester Springs 18 to 15.
 
Charlie Hough(2-2) went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win.
McLaughlin(0-2) was charged with the loss in relief.  He was a hard-luck
loser, pitching 2 and 2/3 innings and not allowing an earned run.  
 
 
LIONVILLE AT DEVAULT

Jim Wynn cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI as the Lionville (21-7)
ballclub clobbered the outmatched Devault Dynamiters (14-13), 14-2.
 
Wynn enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He belted a three-run homer in the
1st inning, delivered a single in the 5th inning and clubbed a solo home run
in the 7th inning.  Overall Lionville out-hit Devault 15 to 10.  
 
The win went to Craig Swan(1-2) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. The
loss was charged to Lynn McGlothen(2-4).  He gave up 4 runs in 2/3 of an
inning and saw his ERA jump from 4.99 to 6.03.  
 
'Some days it just all comes together, and this was one of them' Wynn said.
'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
