Center fielder Al Oliver collected 2 extra-base hits as the Elverson
Squires (16-17) beat the Eagle Eagles (17-17) by a score of 4-1.
 
John Denny(2-4) earned his pay with a solid performance for Elverson.  He went
6 and 1/3 innings and surrended up 5 hits and 2 walks improving his ERA from
4.15 to 3.77.  Elverson managed 7 hits in their victory.  
 
Dave Tomlin recorded his 1st save.  Pat Zachry(3-2) was given the loss.
 
HONEY BROOK AT MARSHALLTON

Ron Cey hit a homerun and had 2 RBI at Four Dogs Field where the Marshallton
Mad Hatters (19-16) beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers (17-17) 4-1.
 
In the bottom of the 7th inning Marshallton scored 3 runs when they came up
with 3 base hits.  They would hold up as the winning runs.  Marshallton
banged out 10 hits on the night.  
 
J.R. Richard(4-3) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory.
Richard got relief help from Adrian Devine who gained credit for his 3rd
save.  The losing pitcher was Pete Falcone(3-4).  He got hammered, allowing 9
hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.  
 
 
KIMBERTON AT GLENMOORE

John Candelaria mowed down 10 Glenmoore batters and catcher Jerry Grote
collected 2 extra-base hits and had 3 RBI at Bentley Stadium as the Kimberton
Firefighters (14-18) beat the Glenmoore Stableboys (14-16) 9-4.
 
Candelaria(5-0) delivered a fine performance for Kimberton.  He surrendered 9
hits and 1 walk in 9 innings and served up 3 'big flies'.  Kimberton had 15
hits for the night.  
 
Bo McLaughlin(0-3) suffered the loss.  Candelaria was humble when questioned
about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches tonight.
But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was called.  That
was an extremely well called game!'
 
DEVAULT AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Del Unser had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Hopewell Field as the Devault
Dynamiters (16-16) won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the
Guthriesville Golddiggers (10-23) by the count of 7-6.
 
Devault scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning plating 2 runs on 2 hits.
Garry Maddox led off the inning for Devault when he ripped a base-knock.
Bill Russell stepped up to the plate and he reached on an error.  Ted Kubiak
then laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out later, Bill Robinson came to bat
and was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Gary Carter came up to bat
and banged out a single.  Tim McCarver added to the outburst and drew a walk
to load the bases.  Tom Griffin(1-2) was helped out by Bruce Sutter who
pitched a perfect ninth and recorded his 7th save.  
 
The loss was charged to Ken Forsch(1-3) in relief.  It was a tough loss for
him as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.  
 
'The only way this one could have been better', said Griffin, 'was if we had
played it at home.'
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT LIONVILLE

Designated hitter Lee Lacy had 2 base hits as the Chester Springs (18-16)
team defeated the Lionville (24-9) ballclub 2-1 at Foster Field.
 
Chester Springs tallied 2 runs in the top of the 2nd inning.  That early
scoring held up.  After the 2nd inning, neither team was able to score.
 
Tom Seaver(3-1) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Charlie Hough
gained credit for his 6th save.  Steve Carlton(5-1) was tagged with the loss.
Despite taking the loss, he whiffed 11 batters in 8 innings.
