May 12, 1976 Recaps

GUTHRIESVILLE AT KIMBERTON

Bob Watson blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Kimberton Firefighters (12-15)
topped the Guthriesville Golddiggers (8-19) by a score of 5-3 at Kimberton
Fairground.
 
Kimberton scored the winning runs in the 8th inning with 3 runs utilizing 4
base hits.  After an out was recorded, Bill Madlock began the rally when he
slapped a single.  Watson stepped into the batter's box and he lifted one out
of the park for a two run home run.  One out later, Jerry Turner stepped up
to the plate and he doubled.  Manny Trillo followed next and he lashed a
single.  Kimberton and Guthriesville each finished the afternoon with 11
hits.  
 
Don Carrithers(1-1) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Skip
Lockwood gained credit for his 5th save.  Steve Rogers(2-3) was tagged with
the loss.  He allowed 4 runs and 9 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.  
 
 
EAGLE AT ELVERSON

Ken Henderson rocketed 2 homeruns at French Creek Park as the Elverson
Squires (13-14) beat the Eagle Eagles (14-14) by the count of 7-0.
 
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Henderson.  He delivered a solo blast in the 2nd inning, laced a
base-hit in the 3rd inning, lined a single in the 5th inning and smashed a
solo-shot out of the park in the 8th inning.  Overall Elverson out-hit Eagle
15 to 5.  
 
Doug Rau(3-3) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Dick
Ruthven(1-3) was the loser.  He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 3 walks in
7 and 1/3 innings.  
 
 
MARSHALLTON AT HONEY BROOK

Gary Matthews launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI and Jerry Koosman allowed
Chris McLaughlin to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Honey
Brook Beekeepers (16-11) outscored the Marshallton Mad Hatters (13-15) 8-4.
 
Matthews had a good evening at the plate.  He popped a two-run clout over the
fence in the 1st inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run in the
5th inning.  Honey Brook banged out 9 hits on the night.  
 
Koosman(4-1) allowed 4 runs on the game. Steve Renko(2-1) suffered the loss.
He gave up 7 runs in 5 innings of work.
 
GLENMOORE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

In a game for the baseball purist, Bill Bonham(2-3) and Phil Niekro(2-2)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Glenmoore Stableboys (12-13)
finally emerged victorious over Chester Springs (13-15), 3-0.
 
Chester Springs was unable to claim the lead after Glenmoore went ahead in the
3rd inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits.  Rob Andrews drew a walk.  Roy
Staiger followed and he slapped a base-hit.  Bake McBride then delivered a
single.  That was all the offense they were to need.  Glenmoore had only 6
hits for the night.  
 
Gene Garber recorded the save, his 4th.
 
LIONVILLE AT DEVAULT

At Great Valley Stadium the Lionville (20-7) ballclub registered 4 runs
in the 9th inning and easily handled the Devault Dynamiters (14-12) 9-5.
 
Steve Carlton(5-0) gave Lionville a solid outing.  He surrendered 8 hits and 3
walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.  Both teams totaled 12 hits on the night.  
 
Tom Griffin(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He pitched 1/3 of an
inning allowing 1 hit and no walks.
