Tom Seaver(6-5) finally bested his Glenmoore opposite, Bob Owchinko(4-4), 2-1. Chester Springs claimed the early lead in the first inning with 2 runs using 2 hits. Lenny Randle opened up the inning nicely when he laced a one-base hit. Randle was safe at second on a stolen base. After an out was recorded, Dave Winfield came up and he cracked a two-run shot. Rick Monday was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out. That was all the runs Seaver needed. Chester Springs had only 6 hits for the night. Seaver got help from Charlie Hough who earned his 15th save. Owchinko ended up with the loss. He allowed 2 runs and 6 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings. Cedeno enjoyed a fine evening at the plate. He laced a base-knock in the 4th inning, stroked a base-hit knocking in a run in the 5th inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 8th inning. Guthriesville rapped out 15 hits for the night. Jim Kaat(3-3) went 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Kent Tekulve recorded the save, his 7th. Jon Matlack(7-3) was given the loss. He was knocked around by Guthriesville, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. Mike Schmidt had a big evening at the plate. He tripled in the 6th inning, doubled scoring two baserunners in the 7th inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 9th inning. Elverson had 15 hits for the game and Honey Brook had 11. The win went to Jim Barr(4-7) who allowed 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings. Dave Freisleben(1-6) was hit with the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 7 hits and 4 walks. Lionville came up with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning when they came up with 3 base hits. They would be enough to earn the win. Kimberton proved to be no trouble in the 9th. The winning pitcher was Carlton(10-3) who allowed 3 runs for the game. Jim Lonborg(3-5) was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the Lionville offense and allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.
