May 11, 1976 Recaps

MARSHALLTON AT HONEY BROOK

Honey Brook Beekeepers (15-11) broke the deadlock in their last at
bats, pulling out a 6-5 win over the Marshallton Mad Hatters (13-14)
and sending their hometown fans home smiling.
 
The game was decided in the 9th inning.  After two outs Willie Stargell
reached on an error.  Gary Matthews came to the plate and reached on an error
resulting in an exciting win for Honey Brook and a raucous post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  Both teams finished the game with 12
hits.  
 
Tug McGraw(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 inning and allowing 1
run. Dave Giusti(1-1) was given the loss in relief.  He was a hard-luck
loser, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and not allowing an earned run.  
 
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT KIMBERTON

Homeruns- K.Hernandez(1st), B.Watson(2nd), B.Madlock(6th), G.Mitterwald(3rd)
 
Bill Madlock went deep and had 3 RBI and Dan Larson was able to finish what he
started and was credited with a complete game at Kimberton Fairground as the
Kimberton Firefighters (11-15) beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers (8-18)
by the count of 10-2.
 
Larson(1-0) looked very much in control throughout the night.  He allowed only
6 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.18 to 2.45.
Kimberton banged out 16 hits on the night.  
 
Jim Kaat(2-2) ended up with the loss.  He served up 3 homeruns in his 6 and
2/3 innings.
 
GLENMOORE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Rennie Stennett had 2 base hits as the Chester Springs club (13-14) defeated
the Glenmoore Stableboys (11-13) 4-2 at Historic Village Park.
 
Chester Springs did all the necessary damage in the 4th inning when they
tallied 4 runs on 5 hits.  The big moment was provided by Dave Rader who
elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he delivered a one-base hit
bringing home two baserunners.  Glenmoore threatened in the 9th but their
rally came up short.  
 
The winning pitcher was Jerry Reuss(3-2) who allowed 2 runs in 8 and 1/3
innings. Reuss got help from Charlie Hough who was credited with his 5th
save.  Paul Reuschel(0-2) was the loser in relief.  
 
When questioned about the loss, Barry Bentley said, 'The fans got to see an
exciting game out there tonight.  Unfortunately, we couldn't get it done this
time.  Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the smiles.'
 
EAGLE AT ELVERSON

Dan Driessen had 4 hits at French Creek Park as the Eagle Eagles (14-13)
beat the Elverson Squires (12-14) 7-6.
 
Rick Reuschel(2-2) contributed a pedestrian performance to earn the win.  He
went 5 innings surrendering 4 hits and 2 walks.  Elverson tried
unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.  
 
Reuschel got relief help from Randy Moffitt who gained credit for his 9th
save.  The loss was charged to John Denny(1-4).  He got hammered, allowing 11
hits and 2 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.  
 
Bob Phillips was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good
contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning
these tight ones! It was just our evening - no doubt about it!'
 
LIONVILLE AT DEVAULT

Jim Wynn had 2 base hits at Great Valley Stadium where the Lionville (19-7)
ballclub beat the Devault Dynamiters (14-11) in 10 innings 3-2.
 
The score was tied at 2 after nine.  Lionville came out on top in the 10th
inning.  Leon Roberts drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Chris Speier
stepped up to the plate and he stroked a one-base hit.  One out later, Wynn
came to bat and stroked a single.  Ted Simmons was up next and he drew a walk
to load the bases.  Devault had 9 hits in the game while Lionville had 6, but
Lionville had the more timely hits.  
 
Ron Reed(3-2) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Rick
Sawyer(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in
2 and 2/3 innings.
