Left fielder Johnny Bench touched them all and had 3 RBI at Bentley Stadium as
the Glenmoore Stableboys beat the Devault Dynamiters 10-8.
 
Bench provided much of the offense.  He tripled in the 3rd inning and smashed
a two-run homer in the 6th inning.  The game was a wild affair with the lead
changing hands 5 times.  
 
Paul Reuschel(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Reuschel got help from Gene Garber who was credited with
his 3rd save.  Tom Griffin(1-2) was the loser in relief.  
 
KIMBERTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

One run was the difference at Hopewell Field as the Guthriesville Golddiggers
defeated the Kimberton Firefighters in 14 innings 5-4.
 
Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings.  Guthriesville came
out the victor in the 14th inning.  After an out was recorded, Davey Lopes
delivered a solo blast making Guthriesville the victors to the delight of the
home town faithful.  Guthriesville had a total of 13 hits for the game.
 
Clay Carroll(2-0) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Dan
Larson(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in
2 innings.  
 
EAGLE AT MARSHALLTON

Donnie Moore delivered 4 solid innings and Larry Biittner had 2 base hits and
2 RBI as the Eagle Eagles outscored the Marshallton Mad Hatters 6-2.
 
Eagle won the game with a rally in the 8th inning with 3 runs on 5 base hits.
Dave Parker led off and he doubled.  Dan Driessen stepped up to the plate and
he smacked a single.  Biittner then doubled.  Dave Roberts came up and he
delivered a base-hit.  Bruce Boisclair stepped into the box and lined a
single.  The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
 
The winning pitcher was Moore(1-0) who allowed no runs in 4 innings. J.R.
Richard(2-2) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 7 hits and 3 walks in 7
innings.
 
HONEY BROOK AT ELVERSON

Tim Foli blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI and Dave Tomlin came through with a
solid 4 innings as the Elverson Squires defeated the Honey Brook Beekeepers 
12-3 at French Creek Park.
 
Honey Brook was unable to recover after Elverson went ahead in the 4th inning
when they scored 5 runs on 5 hits.  The highlight belonged to Foli who
brought a roar from the partisan French Creek Park fans when he cracked a
two-run shot.  Overall Elverson out-hit Honey Brook 14-6.  
 
Tomlin(2-0) allowed no runs in 4 innings, and picked up the victory. The
losing pitcher was Dave Freisleben(0-3).  He was not very effective,
surrendering 6 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.  
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT LIONVILLE

First baseman Willie McCovey ripped 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI at Foster Field
where the Chester Springs ballclub beat the Lionville team 7-6.
 
McCovey provided the offensive punch.  He lofted a three-run 'big-fly' in the
1st inning and hit a bases-empty home run in the 3rd inning.  Lionville had a
chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Jim Rooker(1-3) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 6 innings. Charlie Hough got
the save, his 4th.  Burt Hooton(0-2) suffered the loss.  He surrended 4
homeruns in his 4 innings.  
 
'Some losses are harder to take than others' Jon Brams lamented after the
game.  'This was one of them.'
