Fred Norman allowed Rich Pawlak to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at Bentley Stadium where the Kimberton Firefighters beat the Glenmoore
Stableboys 5-1.
 
Glenmoore was unable to claim the lead after Kimberton went ahead in the 3rd
inning as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits.  The early run support proved
sufficient for Norman(1-1) and Kimberton.  That was all the run support
Norman required.  Kimberton managed 11 hits in their victory.  
 
Floyd Bannister(0-2) absorbed the loss.  He gave up 5 runs and 7 hits in 5 and
2/3 innings.

Pete Rose had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the Eagle Eagles defeated the
floundering Honey Brook Beekeepers in 10 innings 7-6 at Hickory Park.
 
Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings.  Eagle ended up
winning it in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Dave Roberts hit a
single.  Bruce Boisclair stepped up next and he stroked a one-base hit.  Dave
Campbell then threw one that got by the catcher for a passed ball making
Eagle victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd.  Honey Brook had
18 hits in the game while Eagle had 14, but Eagle had the more timely hits.
 
The victory was credited to Bill Atkinson(1-2) who went 1/3 of an inning,
allowing no runs. Joe Kerrigan(0-2) was given the loss in relief.  
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Shortstop Larry Bowa had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Hopewell Field where the
Chester Springs club beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers in 10 innings 7-3.
 
The score was tied at 3 after nine.  Chester Springs won it in the 10th
inning.  The key at-bat was by Willie McCovey who quieted the home crowd when
he cleared the fences for a two-run home run.  Chester Springs ended up with
13 hits for the game while Guthriesville had 6.  
 
Jack Billingham(3-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3
innings. The loss was charged to Kent Tekulve(1-1) in relief.  He allowed 4
runs and 4 hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Ellis Valentine had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Elverson Squires won in dramatic
fashion over the Marshallton Mad Hatters 10-9 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Elverson came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 3 runs
utilizing 4 base hits.  After two were out Steve Garvey opened up the rally
as he slapped a base-hit.  Mike Schmidt came next and he lashed a single.
Joe Ferguson then delivered a single.  John Milner was up next and he drew a
walk to load the bases.  Valentine came up to bat and smacked a single.  A
wild and woolly affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.  
 
Mike Garman(2-0) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Al
Hrabosky was credited with his 1st save.  Rollie Fingers(0-1) suffered the
loss in relief.  He surrendered 6 hits and 2 walks in 1 and 2/3 innings.
 
John Carney was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win it
in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up.  And did you see the
fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of
unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute - SILENCE! Yes sir, a very
enjoyable win tonight!'
 
DEVAULT AT LIONVILLE

Ted Simmons had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Lionville team topped the Devault
Dynamiters 9-5 at Foster Field.
 
Randy Jones(1-0) pitched okay, well enough for the win.  He surrendered 8 hits
and no walks in 7 innings and surrendered 2 'round-trippers'.  Lionville had
12 hits overall, while Devault had 9.  
 
Randy Lerch(0-2) was tagged with the loss.  He got hammered, allowing 7 hits
and 3 walks in 3 innings.
