Left fielder Derrel Thomas knocked 2 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the
Guthriesville Golddiggers defeated the Kimberton Firefighters 11-5
at Kimberton Fairground.
Thomas enjoyed a great day at the plate. He blasted a two-run home run in the
1st inning, lined a single bringing in a run in the 3rd inning and lofted a
three-run 'big-fly' in the 5th inning. Guthriesville totaled 12 hits on the
afternoon.
The victory went to Jim Kaat(1-1) who went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs. The
loss was charged to John Candelaria(1-1). He was unable to control the
Guthriesville offense and allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings.
'Actually, I didn't feel that comfortable at the plate today' Thomas said
after the game. 'Despite that, I'm happy with the results!

Catcher Johnny Bench slammed a homerun and John Montefusco had a strong outing
at Great Valley Stadium as the Glenmoore Stableboys beat the Devault
Dynamiters 8-4.
Glenmoore went ahead for good in the 3rd inning plating one baserunner. After
two outs Bench single-handedly provided the offense with a solo home run.
Willie Montanez was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Overall
Glenmoore out-hit Devault 14-7.
Montefusco(2-0) was the winner allowing 1 run in 7 innings. Montefusco was
helped out by Gene Garber who recorded his 1st save. Jon Matlack(1-1) took
the loss.

Bob Forsch came through with a solid 9 and one third innings as the Elverson
Squires topped the Eagle Eagles in 10 innings 2-1 at Hickory Park.
Both teams had scored 1 runs after nine full innings. Finally, Elverson
pulled the game out in the 10th inning. John Milner drew a walk. John
Carney then called for a steal which was successful. Ellis Valentine dug
into the batters box next, but he struck out. Mike Tyson stepped in and he
worked the squeeze play to perfection. Elverson finished with just 6 hits in
the victory.
The winning pitcher was Forsch(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 9 and 1/3 innings.
Mike Garman got the save, his 2nd. Pat Zachry(0-1) ended up with the loss.
He gave up 2 runs and 6 hits in 9 innings.

Designated hitter Bill Buckner touched them all and had 2 RBI as the
Marshallton Mad Hatters outscored the Honey Brook Beekeepers 6-2.
Honey Brook was unable to claim the lead after Marshallton went ahead in the
bottom of the 3rd inning plating an isolated run using 3 hits. Marshallton
had 11 hits for the night while Honey Brook had 7.
Buddy Schultz(1-0) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Schultz
got help from Rollie Fingers who earned his 2nd save. Bob Knepper(0-1)
absorbed the loss. He allowed 11 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.

One run was the difference at Historic Village Park as the Chester Springs
ballclub defeated the Lionville team 3-2.
Chester Springs won the game with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning.
After an out was recorded, Dave Winfield stroked a base-hit. Winfield stole
second with some aggressive base running. Chester Springs continued their
aggressive style with another stolen base. Jerry Royster was up next and he
hit a deep fly. Rennie Stennett came to the plate and drew a walk.
Lionville made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.
Jack Billingham(2-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 1/3 innings
and allowing no runs. Charlie Hough gained credit for his 2nd save. Steve
Carlton(1-1) was given the loss.
