In a tight game it was the Chester Springs team 4, the Eagle Eagles 2 at
Hickory Park.
Chester Springs had 2 runs cross the plate in the 7th inning when they had 3
base hits. Jose Cardenal led off and keyed the rally when he laced a
base-hit. Larry Bowa stepped up to the plate and he doubled. A balk was
called. Rick Monday was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Dave
Winfield came to the plate and ripped a single. After another out, Winfield
got a great jump and stole second easily. Eagle tried unsuccessfully to come
back in the 9th.
The win went to Joe Niekro(8-5) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Niekro got
help from Charlie Hough who was credited with his 36th save. Chip Lang(6-3)
was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 7 hits and 5
walks.

Enos Cabell had 3 base hits as the Guthriesville Golddiggers beat the
floundering Honey Brook Beekeepers in 11 innings 7-5 at The Nest.
The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. Guthriesville won it in
the 11th inning. Von Joshua kicked off the action when he laced a one-base
hit. Cabell stepped up next and he reached on an error. Don Kessinger then
laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bobby Murcer came up and he banged out a single.
Honey Brook out-hit Guthriesville 12-8, but Guthriesville ended up with
more runs.
Bob Apodaca(9-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 3 and 2/3 innings and
allowing 1 run. Apodaca was helped out by Ken Forsch who recorded his 24th
save. The losing pitcher was Pete Falcone(7-15).

Rick Sawyer pitched a complete game and Richie Zisk had 4 hits and 4 RBI as
the Devault Dynamiters defeated the Kimberton Firefighters 8-3 at Great Valley
Stadium.
Zisk enjoyed a big day at the plate. He doubled which was good for two runs
in the 1st inning, lashed a single knocking in a run in the 3rd inning,
doubled in the 6th inning and smashed a bases-empty 'big-fly' in the 7th
inning. Devault managed 10 hits in their victory.
Sawyer(2-5) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. John
Candelaria(16-8) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 8 runs and 10 hits
in 8 innings.

Mike Schmidt lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 4 RBI and Jim Barr went
9 solid innings as the Elverson Squires bested the Glenmoore Stableboys 7-1
at French Creek Park.
It was a good day for Elverson thanks to Schmidt. He doubled which scored a
run in the 1st inning and rifled a three-run blast in the 7th inning.
Elverson finished with 9 hits in the victory.
Barr(15-15) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Mickey Lolich(12-10)
suffered the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 1
walk.
'He had his 'A' game today,' John Carney said of Barr. 'Very impressive
performance.'

In a good matchup it was the Marshallton Mad Hatters 7, the Lionville club 4
at Four Dogs Field.
Brent Strom(15-6) gave Marshallton a solid outing. He went 7 and 2/3 innings
surrendering 5 hits and 5 walks. Lionville was out-hit by Marshallton, 14-7.
Bruce Kison(15-6) took the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 9 hits and 3 walks
in 5 and 1/3 innings.
