Willie Stargell had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at The Nest as the Honey Brook
Beekeepers staged a comeback win over the Eagle Eagles 11-10.
 
Honey Brook came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning when they tallied
4 runs on 5 hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Tom Paciorek who
brought a roar from the partisan fans at The Nest when he doubled bringing home
two baserunners.  Honey Brook finished with 18 hits while Eagle ended up with
14.  
 
John D'Acquisto(1-2) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Ramon
Hernandez(0-4) was tagged with the loss in relief.  Honey Brook knocked him
around a bit, as he gave up 4 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.  
 
D'Acquisto and Stargell were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the
great come from behind victory.  As Chris McLaughlin noted, 'A win like this
one can do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the
fans, the players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen
runs!'
 
KIMBERTON AT GLENMOORE, 1st

In a thriling finish the Glenmoore Stableboys pulled off the win over the
Kimberton Firefighters 4-3 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Glenmoore scored the deciding run in the 9th inning.  Ted Sizemore stroked a
base-hit.  After an out was recorded, McBride stole second with some
aggressive base running.  Merv Rettenmund then lined a single resulting in a
mighty exciting win for Glenmoore and the 108 home town fans in attendance.
Glenmoore had 8 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Gary Lavelle(5-0) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Don
Carrithers(2-6) was the losing pitcher in relief.  He gave up 4 hits and 1
walk in 2 innings.
 
KIMBERTON AT GLENMOORE, 2nd

Left fielder Johnny Grubb had 2 base hits as the Glenmoore Stableboys defeated
the Kimberton Firefighters 3-0 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Kimberton fell behind quickly as the Glenmoore offense came through in the
first inning plating one baserunner on 2 hits.  That early run support was
all that Don Gullett(4-5) required.  Glenmoore ended up with 11 hits for the
game while Kimberton had 5.  
 
Gullett got relief help from Paul Reuschel who gained credit for his 2nd save.
Dan Larson(4-2) was given the loss.  He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk in 5 and
1/3 innings.
 
MARSHALLTON AT ELVERSON

The Marshallton Mad Hatters edged the Elverson Squires at French Creek Park 6-5.
 
Tom Underwood(7-2) had a steady outing.  He allowed 8 hits and 5 walks in 7
innings.  Elverson made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push
the needed runs across.  
 
Rawly Eastwick gained credit for his 25th save. Mike Garman(0-4) ended up with
the loss.  He was knocked around by Marshallton, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks
in 3 and 2/3 innings.  
 
 
DEVAULT AT GUTHRIESVILLE

The Guthriesville Golddiggers and the Devault Dynamiters locked up in an
exciting one-run game at Hopewell Field.  The final score was the
Guthriesville Golddiggers 6, the Devault Dynamiters 5.
 
Guthriesville jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring a
single run using 2 hits.  Devault tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.  
 
The win went to Larry Christenson(3-7) who allowed no runs in 6 and 2/3
innings. Ken Forsch preserved the game for Christenson, recording his his
12th.  Joaquin Andujar(3-6) was the loser.  His ERA increased from 4.75 to
5.03 as he allowed 6 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.  
 
Gary Scott was in a talkative mood in the clubhouse, 'Great game! If only we
could win all of the close ones - wouldn't that be nice! Since that's not
going to happen, I think I'll savor this one for a little while.'

The incredible Lionville ballclub had very little trouble at Foster Field
downing the Chester Springs club.  The score was 9-4.
 
It was a good day for Lionville thanks to Jim Wynn.  He lined a single in the
3rd inning, slapped a one-base hit scoring a run in the 7th inning and lofted
a three-run 'big-fly' in the 8th inning.  For the game Lionville out-hit
Chester Springs 15-11.  
 
The winning pitcher was Joe Sambito(4-2) who allowed 1 run in 2 and 1/3
innings. The loss was charged to Joe Niekro(4-4) in relief.  He pitched 1 and
1/3 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.

One run was the difference at Foster Field as the Chester Springs ballclub
defeated the Lionville club 3-2.
 
Jack Billingham(4-6) had a fairly solid outing.  He went 5 innings allowing 6
hits and 2 walks lowering his ERA from 4.55 to 4.34.  Lionville had a chance
to come back in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Charlie Hough got the save, his 23rd.  Bruce Kison(9-4) suffered the loss.
'Some losses are harder to take than others' Jon Brams lamented after the
game.  'This was one of them.'
