Niekro(10-10) put on a good performance. He didn't give up much, just 7 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Chester Springs banged out 13 hits on the night. Larry Demery(5-6) was charged with the loss. He allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. When questioned, Jim Ghoulach remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt this good - heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!' Dick Ruthven(9-7) gave a fine effort for Eagle. He was reached for 7 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings. Randy Moffitt pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 25th save. Dan Warthen(2-2) was the loser in relief. It was another victory for Eagle at Great Valley Stadium. Now their winning streak stands at 7 games. Marshallton drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning when they tallied 4 runs on 4 hits. That was all the offense they were to need. Marshallton rapped out 13 hits for the night. Nolan(10-7) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. Andy Messersmith(6-9) was given the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 13 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. ELVERSON AT LIONVILLE Squires......... 1 0 0 0 0 3 4 1 0 - 9 13 0 Tiger-Cats...... 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 - 2 8 0 Win:Denny(6-11) Loss:Hooton(11-5) Homeruns- M.Schmidt(23rd), J.Milner(5th) Mike Schmidt blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Elverson Squires bested the Lionville club 9-2 at Foster Field. Elverson took the lead for keeps in the top of the 6th inning with 3 runs on 3 hits. Schmidt kicked off the action when he ripped a solo home run. Steve Garvey was next and he stroked a base-hit. John Milner then bombed a two-run dinger. Elverson finished with 13 hits while Lionville ended up with 8. The victory was credited to John Denny(6-11) who went 7 innings, allowing 2 runs. Burt Hooton(11-5) suffered the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 6 hits in 5 innings.
