Don Gullett allowed Barry Bentley to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Willie Montanez went yard as the Glenmoore Stableboys won a
heart-stopping victory over the Elverson Squires, 2-1.
 
The game was won by Glenmoore with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning.
Johnny Bench doubled, and an error was also committed.  Al Hrabosky then let
loose a wild pitch resulting in an exciting win for Glenmoore and a wild
post-game celebration by the home town fans.  Glenmoore had only 6 hits for
the game.  
 
Gullett(5-5), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Dave
Heaverlo(1-3) absorbed the loss in relief.  He was a hard-luck loser,
pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and not allowing an earned run.

Wayne Twitchell racked up an impressive total of 14 strikeouts as the
Kimberton Firefighters bested the Devault Dynamiters 5-2 at Great Valley
Stadium.
 
Kimberton had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring 3 runs
using 3 hits.  After an out was recorded, Reggie Smith initiated the scoring
spurt when he tripled.  Jerry Turner stepped up to the plate and he ripped a
base-knock.  Tom Griffin then uncorked a wild one that found its way to the
backstop.  Jose Cruz came up and he slapped a single.  Cruz swiped second
base.  Kimberton continued their aggressive style with another stolen base.
Griffin then tossed a pitch that the catcher mis-handled.  Manny Trillo then
drew a walk.  Devault out-hit Kimberton 10-7, but Kimberton ended up with
more runs.  
 
Carl Morton(4-6) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. Skip
Lockwood recorded his 22nd save.  Woodie Fryman(5-11) suffered the loss.

176 fans watched an exciting game at Historic Village Park.  The Eagle Eagles
topped the Chester Springs ballclub by the slimmest of margins, 4-3.
 
Don Stanhouse(3-3) got the win but did not look spectacular.  He gave up 3
runs, 9 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings.  Chester Springs made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.  
 
Randy Moffitt recorded the save, his 22nd.  Dale Murray(0-6) was the loser in
relief.  'We won because we did the little things right.' Bob Phillips said
after the game.  'This is why we practice things over and over and over, so
when we get in close games we don't make mistakes.'
 
HONEY BROOK AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Left fielder Lou Brock went deep and had 2 RBI at Hopewell Field as the
Guthriesville Golddiggers beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers 7-5.
 
Guthriesville set the tone of the game in the first inning when they came up
with 5 runs on 5 hits.  The big moment was provided by Barry Foote who
electrified Hopewell Field when he cracked a two-run shot.  Although they
lost, Honey Brook did out-hit Guthriesville 13-9.  
 
Jim Kaat(5-14) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Ken Forsch preserved the game for Kaat, recording his his 16th.  The loss was
charged to Jerry Koosman(9-3).  He surrended 3 homeruns in his 2/3 of an
inning.  
 
 
MARSHALLTON AT LIONVILLE

At Foster Field, the Lionville faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  J.R. Richard(9-8) finally bested his Lionville counterpart,
Randy Jones(18-4), 2-1.
 
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings.  Finally, Marshallton
pulled the game out in the 11th inning.  Ron Cey slapped a base-hit.  Pete
Lacock struck out, unable to help the rally.  After another out, Buckner was
safe at second on a stolen base.  Ron Hodges followed and he stroked a
one-base hit.  Garry Templeton stepped into the box and lashed a single.
Marshallton had 10 hits for the night.  
 
Richard got relief help from Rawly Eastwick who gained credit for his 28th
save.  Jones was charged with the loss.  He pitched 10 innings and
surrendered 8 hits and 1 walk.
