The hometown crowd was rewarded with a dramatic ending, as the Elverson
Squires staged a comeback win over the reeling Chester Springs club 10-9.
 
Elverson scored the winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 5 runners on 4
hits.  The key at-bat was by Al Oliver who excited the crowd when he rifled a
three-run blast.  Chester Springs was not lacking for run support as they
scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to
forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames.  
 
Al Hrabosky(5-2) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Charlie
Hough(6-7) absorbed the loss in relief.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing
2 hits and 1 walk.
 
John Carney was ebullient after the game, 'It's great to win a hard fought
game like that.  Our guys just weren't going to be denied.  And did you see
the fans - they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this
afternoon!'
 
DEVAULT AT MARSHALLTON

Bruce Sutter shut Marshallton down as the Devault Dynamiters defeated the
Marshallton Mad Hatters 9-8 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Devault came up with 5 runs in the top of the 4th inning when they came up
with 5 base hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Dave Kingman who
silenced the crowd when he slapped a single scoring two baserunners.
Marshallton made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.  
 
The victory was credited to Woodie Fryman(6-11) who went 6 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 8 runs. Fryman was helped out by Sutter who recorded his 24th save.
Steve Renko(8-7) was the losing pitcher.  He gave up 7 runs in 3 and 2/3
innings of work.  
 
Steve Yeager cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI in a losing cause for
Marshallton.
 
KIMBERTON AT HONEY BROOK

Bill Madlock hit a homerun as the Kimberton Firefighters topped the Honey
Brook Beekeepers 2-1 at The Nest.
 
Kimberton had 2 runs cross the plate in the top of the 6th inning.  Honey
Brook threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.  
 
The win was credited to Fred Norman(4-7) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 1
run. Skip Lockwood was credited with his 26th save.  The losing pitcher was
Jerry Koosman(10-5).  
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT GLENMOORE

The Glenmoore Stableboys toppled the hapless Guthriesville Golddiggers 6-2 at
Bentley Stadium.
 
Mickey Lolich(7-7) had a solid outing for Glenmoore.  He went 7 innings
surrendering 7 hits and 3 walks.  Glenmoore out-hit Guthriesville for the
game, 13-7.  
 
Frank Lacorte got the save, his 1st.  Larry Christenson(3-10) was hit with the
loss.  He allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.
 
EAGLE AT LIONVILLE

Jerry Morales touched them all and scored 3 times as the powerful Lionville
ballclub beat the Eagle Eagles in 10 innings 5-4.
 
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings.  Finally, Lionville pulled the
game out in the 10th inning.  Morales lofted a solo-blast 'downtown'
resulting in a mighty exciting win for Lionville and the 981 home town fans
in attendance.  Lionville had a total of 11 hits for the game.  
 
Ron Reed(11-3) went 3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Randy
Moffitt(6-6) was charged with the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 run and 2
hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.
