Steve Renko(8-6) delivered a fine performance for Marshallton. He allowed 7 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Glenmoore made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Rawly Eastwick gained credit for his 31st save. John Montefusco(11-8) was tagged with the loss. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' John Young said after the game. 'Renko did not have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!' Eagle won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 base hits. Bud Harrelson led off and started the rally when he lashed a single, and an error was also committed. Billy Baldwin came to the plate and cracked a two-run shot. Dick Allen followed, but he was set down on strikes. After another out, Darrel Chaney came to bat and doubled. Omar Moreno was a strikeout victim, unable to help out. Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the night. Gene Pentz(2-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 innings. Pentz was helped out by Randy Moffitt who recorded his 26th save. Skip Lockwood(3-3) was hit with the loss in relief. 'I pin this one on my own shoulders,' Lockwood said. 'The bottom line is I didn't get the job done. Our fans deserve better than this.' Jon Matlack(10-6) pitched a fine game. He went 8 innings surrendering 8 hits and 2 walks. Chester Springs had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. Bruce Sutter recorded the save, his 21st. Jerry Reuss(8-7) suffered the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in 8 innings. 'This was a tough loss,' said Jim Ghoulach, 'the kind that sticks with you for awhile.' The score was tied at 6 after nine. Elverson was victorious in the 10th inning. Jerry Davanon drew a walk. Mike Schmidt stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Garvey then laced a base-hit. Garvey took second on the throw. After another out, Ken Henderson came to the plate and was walked intentionally. Elverson had 12 hits overall, while Guthriesville had 9. The win went to Al Hrabosky(4-2) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Ken Forsch(3-10) took the loss in relief. He gave up 4 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings. HONEY BROOK AT LIONVILLE Beekeepers...... 1 4 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 - 6 7 2 Tiger-Cats...... 0 0 0 0 0 3 2 0 2 - 7 14 1 Win:Reed(10-3) Loss:Koosman(10-4) Homeruns- G.Luzinski-2(26th), J.Torre(3rd) Greg Luzinski blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Lionville ballclub came back to win one over Honey Brook Beekeepers, 7-6. Lionville had the winning rally in the 9th inning plating 2 runs on 3 hits. After an out was recorded, Luzinski was the sparkplug when he smashed a solo-shot out of the park. Joe Torre came next and he ripped a base-knock. Hozay Morales then doubled. Willie Davis came up and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Jim Wynn came up to bat and reached on an error. Lionville ended up with 14 hits for the game while Honey Brook had 7. Ron Reed(10-3) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the victory. Jerry Koosman(10-4) absorbed the loss. He surrended 3 homeruns in his 8 and 1/3 innings. 'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Luzinski noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
