Bob Forsch(6-6) and Phil Niekro(10-11) treated the Elverson fans to a fine
pitching duel at French Creek Park. The Elverson Squires eventually emerged
as victors over the Chester Springs team 2-0.
Chester Springs was unable to recover after Elverson went ahead in the 2nd
inning scoring a single run using 2 hits. That was all the offense they were
to need. Both teams totaled 5 hits on the afternoon.
Ron Schueler got the save, his 2nd. Jim Ghoulach was pretty down after the
loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately.'

Ron Cey had 2 base hits at Four Dogs Field where the Marshallton Mad Hatters
beat the Devault Dynamiters 3-2.
Marshallton came up with all the runs they needed in the 6th inning as they
scored 3 runs on 4 base hits. Although they lost, Devault did out-hit
Marshallton 8-5.
Rob Dressler(4-3) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Rawly
Eastwick was credited with his 33rd save. The loss was charged to Jon
Matlack(10-7). He gave up only 5 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.

The Kimberton Firefighters and the Honey Brook Beekeepers locked up in an
exciting one-run game at The Nest. The final score was the Kimberton
Firefighters 4, the Honey Brook Beekeepers 3.
Kimberton had the winning rally in the top of the 8th inning plating 3 runs on
4 hits. Mick Kelleher kicked off the action when he doubled. Bill Madlock
stepped up next and he lined a one-base hit. Bob Watson then laced a
base-hit, and an error was also committed. After an out was recorded, Jerry
Grote came to bat and ripped a base-knock. Neither team was able to score
until the 6th inning.
Jim Lonborg(11-9) got the win allowing 3 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Skip
Lockwood recorded his 25th save. Santo Alcala(3-7) absorbed the loss in
relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 1/3 of an inning.
'He gutted it out' Rich Pawlak said of Lonborg. 'I was very impressed by his
tenacity.'

Catcher Johnny Bench hit 2 doubles as the Glenmoore Stableboys bested the
pathetic Guthriesville Golddiggers 3-1 at Bentley Stadium.
The game started off with Glenmoore taking the lead in the first when they
came up with 2 runs on 2 hits. Glenmoore finished with 8 hits in the
victory.
Pedro Borbon(4-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Gene Garber
preserved the game for Borbon, recording his his 25th. Jim Kaat(5-17) was
the loser. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in
his 5 innings of work.

Hozay Morales lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI as the Lionville
ballclub defeated the Eagle Eagles 7-2 at Foster Field.
Lionville jumped on top to stay in the 7th inning when they scored 3 runs on 4
hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Jim Wynn who came through for
the home fans when he delivered a single bringing in two baserunners. The
teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 7th inning.
The win was credited to Burt Hooton(12-5) who went 8 innings allowing 2 runs.
The losing pitcher was Dick Ruthven(9-8). He was unable to control the
Lionville offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 6 innings.
