Eagle claimed the early lead in the first inning plating an isolated run on 3 base hits. Glenmoore threatened in the 9th but Eagle was able to put down the rally. Don Sutton(12-7) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Randy Moffitt got the save, his 27th. Rick Rhoden(8-6) was charged with the loss. Barry Bentley was in a sour mood after the game. Marshallton scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. Marty Perez drew a walk. Perez then stole second base. Garry Templeton was the next batter, but he struck out. Griffey followed next and he lined a base-hit giving Marshallton the victory and sending the 906 home-town fans home happy. Marshallton had only 6 hits for the afternoon. Rawly Eastwick(5-6) allowed 1 run in 1 inning, and picked up the victory. Skip Lockwood(3-4) absorbed the loss in relief. He gave up 2 hits and 1 walk in 2/3 of an inning. The Devault Dynamiters won by the slimmest of margins, 5-4. Both teams had scored 4 runs after nine full innings. Devault won it in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Larry Parrish slapped a single. Ted Kubiak stepped up next and he ripped a base-hit. Mike Garman then had one get away for a wild pitch. Craig Reynolds was up next and he was walked intentionally to load the bases. Garry Maddox stepped into the box and ripped a base-knock. Maddox took second on the throw. Devault finished with 12 hits while Elverson ended up with 8. Butch Metzger(4-4) went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Bruce Sutter preserved the game for Metzger, recording his his 25th. The losing pitcher was Garman(1-5) in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 2 hits without retiring a batter. CHESTER SPRINGS AT HONEY BROOK Two-Fivers...... 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 - 3 8 0 Beekeepers...... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 1 - 2 4 1 Win:Sarmiento(2-1) Loss:D'Acquisto(1-4) Save:Hough(27th) Homeruns- G.Thomasson(5th) Gary Thomasson lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI and Phil Niekro had a strong outing at The Nest as the Chester Springs club won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers 3-2. Chester Springs scored the winning runs in the 9th inning with 2 runs on 3 hits. After two outs Dave Winfield initiated the scoring spurt when he stroked a one-base hit. Winfield got a good lead and stole second. John D'Acquisto then threw a wild pitch. Thomasson followed and he doubled. Hector Cruz came up to bat and lashed a single. Chester Springs had 8 hits for the game and Honey Brook had 4. The winning pitcher was Manny Sarmiento(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1 inning. Sarmiento was helped out by Charlie Hough who recorded his 27th save. D'Acquisto(1-4) was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 2 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 hits and no walks. LIONVILLE AT GUTHRIESVILLE Tiger-Cats...... 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 3 1 - 6 9 0 Golddiggers..... 0 0 1 1 0 0 0 1 0 - 3 7 1 Win:Carlton(15-4) Loss:Rogers(6-10) Save:Sambito(4th) Homeruns- E.Kranepool(4th), D.Lopes(3rd), C.Cedeno(8th) Ed Kranepool had 4 hits as the Lionville ballclub topped the Guthriesville Golddiggers 6-3 at Hopewell Field. Lionville erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Jerry Morales led off and he ripped a one-base hit. Leon Roberts followed and he was hit by a pitch. After another out, Jim Wynn followed, but he was set down on strikes. Willie Davis came up and he banged out a single to load the bases. Ken Reitz came to the plate and slapped a base-hit. Reitz took second on the throw. Chris Speier contributed to the rally and drew a walk to load the bases. Joe Morgan followed next and he drew a walk. Lionville had a total of 9 hits for the game. Steve Carlton(15-4) picked up the victory, allowing 3 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Joe Sambito earned his 4th save. Steve Rogers(6-10) was the loser. He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 7 and 2/3 innings.
