1,658 fans were treated to a fine game at Hickory Park as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Eagle Eagles won by the slimmest
of margins, 4-3.
 
Eagle scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits.
Dick Allen kicked off the action when he laced a base-hit, and an error was
also committed.  Earl Williams came next and he doubled.  Pete Rose then
delivered a single.  Two outs later Bud Harrelson stepped up to the plate and
he stroked a single.  Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the night.  
 
Bill Atkinson(1-1) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the win.
Atkinson got help from Randy Moffitt who earned his 21st save.  Larry
Demery(5-5) was the loser.

Mike Anderson collected 4 RBI with one swing of the bat at Four Dogs Field as
the Glenmoore Stableboys pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the
Marshallton Mad Hatters 9-6.
 
Glenmoore came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 5
runners on 3 hits.  The biggest moment was provided by Anderson who helped
quiet the crowd when he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun.
Glenmoore totaled 11 hits on the night.  
 
Pedro Borbon(3-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 and 1/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Rawly Eastwick(4-4) was tagged with the loss in relief.
 
Barry Bentley was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last
at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there?
You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead.  But, hey, that's what
makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over
'til its over.'

Jerry Reuss took a no-hitter into the 6th inning at Historic Village Pk. where
the Chester Springs ballclub beat the Devault Dynamiters 3-0.
 
Reuss(8-5) was on top of his game.  He gave up just 3 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings.  The left-handed Reuss lost his no-hit bid when Bill Russell singled
with two outs in the 6th inning.  Chester Springs had 6 hits for the game and
Devault had 3.  
 
Charlie Hough preserved the game for Reuss, recording his his 25th.  Jon
Matlack(9-6) suffered the loss.  He pitched 8 innings giving up 6 hits and 1
walk.
 
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT ELVERSON

The Elverson Squires edged the hopeless Guthriesville Golddiggers in 10
innings at French Creek Park 3-2.
 
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings.  Elverson won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Wayne Garrett
initiated the scoring spurt when he drew a walk.  Al Oliver stepped into the
batter's box and he singled.  Mike Tyson then tripled giving Elverson the win
much to the delight of the home town crowd.  Elverson had a total of 8 hits
for the game.  
 
Al Hrabosky(3-2) allowed 1 run in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Ken Forsch(3-9) absorbed the loss in relief.  He was unable to
retire a batter and surrendered 2 hits and no walks.

Ken Reitz had 4 hits and Steve Carlton delivered 9 solid innings as the
dominant Lionville team beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers 8-2.
 
Honey Brook fell behind quickly as the Lionville offense came through in the
first inning when they came up with 2 runs on 1 hit.  The key at-bat was by
Greg Luzinski who quieted the home crowd when he popped a two-run clout over
the fence.  Lionville kept the pressure on throughout the contest as they
scored in 6 different innings.  
 
The win was credited to Carlton(12-4) who went the whole way allowing 2 runs.
Pete Falcone(5-10) was hit with the loss.  He pitched 5 innings allowing 7
hits and 2 walks.
