Don Sutton tossed a complete game at Hickory Park as the Eagle Eagles beat the
Chester Springs club in 11 innings 2-1.
 
The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings.  Finally, Eagle prevailed in
the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Manny Sanguillen doubled, and an
error was also committed, resulting in an exciting win for Eagle and a wild
post-game celebration by the home town fans.  The teams had been locked in a
scoreless duel until the 6th inning.  
 
The victory went to Sutton(10-6) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Charlie
Hough(5-5) was the loser in relief.  It was a tough loss for him as he did
not allow an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work.

Center fielder Garry Maddox had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Devault Dynamiters
bested the Kimberton Firefighters 7-4 at Kimberton Fairground.
 
Tommy John(7-8) gave Devault a solid outing.  He went 7 and 2/3 innings
allowing 7 hits and 3 walks.  Devault had 14 hits for the afternoon while
Kimberton had 8.  
 
Bruce Sutter preserved the game for John, recording his his 19th.  Eric
Rasmussen(2-7) took the loss.  He served up 4 gopher balls in 9 innings.  
 
 
GLENMOORE AT ELVERSON

Johnny Bench had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Glenmoore Stableboys beat the
Elverson Squires in 10 innings 5-3.
 
The score was tied at 3 after nine.  Glenmoore won it in the 10th inning.
Merv Rettenmund got things going when he drew a walk.  Larry Herndon next to
the plate and he ripped a single.  Herndon took off for second and slid in
with a stolen base.  Willie Crawford was up next and he stroked a one-base
hit.  After an out was recorded, Bench came up and he lined a base-hit.
Willie Montanez kept things alive and grounded into a double play.  Elverson
was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 10th.  
 
Bo McLaughlin(2-4) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Ron
Schueler(0-1) was given the loss in relief.  He allowed 2 runs and 1 hit in 2
and 2/3 innings.
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT HONEY BROOK

In a close game it was the Guthriesville Golddiggers 4, the Honey Brook
Beekeepers 2 at The Nest.
 
Guthriesville drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first
inning plating an isolated run on 2 base hits.  Guthriesville banged out 7
hits on the night.  
 
Larry Dierker(5-9) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Dierker got relief help from Ken Forsch who gained credit for his 14th save.
The losing pitcher was Dave Freisleben(3-7).  He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings
giving up 5 hits and 3 walks.
 
'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Dierker, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
 
LIONVILLE AT MARSHALLTON, 1st

Bruce Kison completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Lionville
ballclub topped the Marshallton Mad Hatters 8-2 at Four Dogs Field.
 
In the top of the 3rd inning Lionville went on top for good scoring a single
run.  Hozay Morales smashed a solo-shot out of the park.  After an out was
recorded, Greg Luzinski stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.  One out
later, Leon Roberts was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.
Lionville rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.  
 
The winning pitcher was Kison(10-4) who allowed 2 runs for the game. Steve
Renko(7-5) was hit with the loss.

Joe Morgan went deep and had 2 RBI as the impressive Lionville ballclub
outscored the Marshallton Mad Hatters in 10 innings 4-3.
 
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.  Lionville won the
game in the 10th inning.  After an out was recorded, Ken Reitz doubled.
Morgan stepped into the batter's box and he ripped a base-hit.  Chris Speier
was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim.  Marshallton was out-hit by
Lionville, 17-7.  
 
The victory was credited to Ron Reed(9-3) who went 3 innings, allowing no
runs. Rawly Eastwick(4-3) absorbed the loss in relief.
