Tommy John(4-3) and Stan Bahnsen(2-1) treated the Devault fans to a fine
pitching duel at Great Valley Stadium.  The Devault Dynamiters eventually
emerged as victors over the Guthriesville Golddiggers 3-1.
 
John had a solid outing for Devault.  He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in 5
innings.  Guthriesville was set down quietly in the 9th.  
 
Rich Gossage was credited with his 1st save.
 
GLENMOORE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

One run was the difference at Historic Village Park as the Chester Springs club
defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys 3-2.
 
Glenmoore found themselves trailing quickly as the Chester Springs bats came
through in the first inning as they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits.  Glenmoore
threatened in the 9th but Chester Springs was able to put down the rally.
 
Tom Seaver(3-2) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory.
Charlie Hough earned his 7th save.  Bob Owchinko(3-3) was given the loss.  He
was not very effective, surrendering 3 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.  
 
MARSHALLTON AT EAGLE

Don Sutton came through with a solid 9 innings at Hickory Park as the Eagle
Eagles won in their last at-bat beating the Marshallton Mad Hatters 2-1.
 
The deciding run was scored by Eagle in the bottom of the 9th.  Larry Biittner
lined a base-hit.  Burke stole second with some aggressive base running.
After an out was recorded, Felix Millan stepped up to the plate and he was
walked intentionally.  One out later, Omar Moreno came up and he reached on
an error resulting in a mighty exciting win for Eagle and the 1,277 home town
fans in attendance.  Eagle banged out 8 hits on the night.  
 
The win went to Sutton(3-1) who allowed 1 run in the game. Tom Underwood(2-2)
was the losing pitcher.  He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an
earned run in his 8 and 1/3 innings of work.  
 
'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Sutton. 'I had
good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything
went well.'
 
ELVERSON AT HONEY BROOK

The Honey Brook Beekeepers pitching staff was overwhelmed by the Elverson
Squires lineup who plated 13 runs while Bob Forsch(2-2), with relief help
from Dave Tomlin, held Honey Brook to 1 run.
 
Forsch earned his pay with a solid performance for Elverson.  He went 5 and
2/3 innings surrendering 3 hits and 5 walks seeing his ERA drop from 2.40 to
2.13.  Elverson had 15 hits for the night while Honey Brook had 5.  
 
Tomlin earned the save, his 1st.  The loss was charged to Mark
Lemongello(2-4).  He allowed Elverson 6 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings of work.
 
LIONVILLE AT KIMBERTON

613 fans watched an exciting game at Kimberton Fairground.  The Kimberton
Firefighters topped the Lionville team by the slimmest of margins, 4-3.
 
In the 6th inning Kimberton went on top for good plating one baserunner.
Reggie Smith drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Rich Pawlak stepped in
and he called for a steal which was successful.  Bob Watson then hit a deep
fly.  Tucker Ashford got his chance to keep things going, but he went down on
strikes.  The Lionville batters went down meekly in the 9th.  
 
The winning pitcher was John Candelaria(4-3) who allowed 3 runs in 8 innings.
Candelaria got help from Bob Myrick who earned his 2nd save.  Fred
Holdsworth(0-2) took the loss in relief.  He was the victim of a defensive
lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
