Third baseman Ron Cey went deep and had 2 RBI and Bob Shirley whiffed 10
batters as the Marshallton Mad Hatters defeated the Devault Dynamiters 5-2 
at Four Dogs Field.
 
Shirley(5-1) pitched well for Marshallton in their victory.  He was reached
for 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 1/3 innings.  Marshallton finished with 11
hits while Devault ended up with 8.  
 
Rollie Fingers gained credit for his 6th save.  Tommy John(4-4) took the loss.
He surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.  
 
'Everything felt great' Shirley said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could
throw it by everybody tonight.'

693 fans watched an exciting game at The Nest.  The Chester Springs club
topped the Honey Brook Beekeepers by the slimmest of margins, 3-2.
 
Chester Springs won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning. Bob
Boone slapped a single.  After an out was recorded, Dave Rader came to bat
and laced a base-knock.  Larry Bowa then grounded into a double play.
Chester Springs and Honey Brook each finished the night with 8 hits.  
 
Joe Niekro(5-0) allowed 2 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory. Niekro
got relief help from Charlie Hough who gained credit for his 9th save.  The
losing pitcher was Jerry Koosman(2-5).  He allowed 8 hits and 4 walks in 8
and 1/3 innings.

Ken Reitz homered and had 4 RBI as the Lionville ballclub bested the Glenmoore
Stableboys 7-1 at Foster Field.
 
Reitz enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He rifled a three-run blast in the
2nd inning and doubled in the 4th inning.  For the game Lionville out-hit
Glenmoore 9-6.  
 
Ron Reed(2-3) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Floyd
Bannister(1-5) was the loser.  He was touched for 8 hits and 2 walks in 5 and
1/3 innings.
