The Kimberton Firefighters nipped the Chester Springs ballclub in 11 innings
2-1 at Kimberton Fairground in a hard fought contest.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Kimberton came out on
top in the 11th inning. Joel Youngblood reached on an error. Jose Cruz
stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Tucker
Ashford got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Reggie Smith was
up next and he doubled giving Kimberton the win much to the delight of the
home town crowd. Despite losing, Chester Springs out-hit Kimberton 10-7.
The win was credited to Guillermo Hernandez(1-1) who went 2 and 1/3 innings
allowing no runs. Phil Niekro(6-2) suffered the loss. He surrendered 7 hits
and 2 walks in 10 and 2/3 innings.

Jeff Burroughs hit 2 doubles and had 3 RBI at Great Valley Stadium as the
Devault Dynamiters beat the Eagle Eagles 7-6.
Devault scored 5 runs in the decisive bottom of the 2nd inning when they had 4
base hits. The highlight belonged to Burroughs who excited the crowd when he
doubled plating two runs. Eagle tried unsuccessfully to come back in the
9th.
Jackie Brown(2-2) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings. Rich
Gossage earned his 2nd save. Pat Zachry(0-5) was the loser. 'He gutted it
out' Barney Charney said of Brown. 'I was very impressed by his tenacity.'

Right fielder Dave Parker lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 2 RBI as
the Eagle Eagles came back to win one over Devault Dynamiters, 6-5.
Eagle scored the winning runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs utilizing 3 base
hits. Parker started the scoring when he cracked a solo homerun. After an
out was recorded, Ted Martinez came to the plate and delivered a one-base
hit. Joe Nolan then lifted one out of the park for a two run home run.
Bruce Boisclair followed next and he drew a walk. Dave Roberts dug into the
batters box next, but he struck out. Omar Moreno struck out, unable to help
the rally. Although they lost, Devault did out-hit Eagle 12-8.
Bill Atkinson(4-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Bruce Sutter(1-1) was tagged with the loss in relief.
Sutter was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'

Ed Halicki had a complete game at Bentley Stadium where the Elverson Squires
beat the Glenmoore Stableboys 9-2.
Elverson tallied 4 runs in the 7th inning when they came up with 5 base hits.
The critical plate appearance was by Lee Mazzilli who deflated the crowd as
he ripped a one-base hit scoring two baserunners. Elverson had 13 hits for
the night.
The victory was credited to Halicki(2-4) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Mario Soto(0-1) took the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 5
hits and 2 walks.
HONEY BROOK AT GUTHRIESVILLE

The Honey Brook Beekeepers had very little trouble at Hopewell Field downing
the Guthriesville Golddiggers. The score was 9-4.
Honey Brook scored 3 runs in the 7th inning when they had 4 base hits. They
ended up being the winning runs. Honey Brook finished with 13 hits while
Guthriesville ended up with 8.
Ray Burris(2-6) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 7 and 1/3 innings.
Dave Campbell preserved the game for Burris, recording his his 2nd. The loss
was charged to Steve Rogers(4-4). He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving up 5
hits and 3 walks.

In a close game it was the Marshallton Mad Hatters 5, the Lionville club 3 in
14 innings at Foster Field.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Marshallton was
victorious in the 14th inning. After an out was recorded, Rowland Office got
things rolling when he smashed a solo-shot out of the park. Ken Boswell came
next and he drew a walk. Gene Richards then tripled. Garry Templeton got
his chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Both teams
ended up with 10 hits on the night.
The win went to Buddy Schultz(2-1) who allowed no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Fred Holdsworth(0-3) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3
innings allowing 1 hit and no walks.
