Richie Hebner homered and had 2 RBI as the Glenmoore Stableboys defeated the
Kimberton Firefighters 6-4 at Kimberton Fairground.
 
Glenmoore started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first when they scored 4 runs on 5 hits.  The highlight belonged to
Hebner who quieted the crowd when he lifted one out of the park for a two run
home run.  Overall Glenmoore out-hit Kimberton 15-12.  
 
The victory was credited to Rick Rhoden(5-2) who went 6 innings, allowing 4
runs. Gary Lavelle recorded the save, his 4th.  The losing pitcher was Jim
Lonborg(3-4).

Tom Seaver pitched 9 strong innings and Lee Lacy hit 2 doubles as the Chester
Springs ballclub beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers 2-0 at Historic Village 
Park.
 
The game started off with Chester Springs taking the lead in the first plating
an isolated run using 2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Jose Cardenal
doubled.  Lacy was next and he doubled.  Rick Monday was the next batter, but
he struck out.  That early run support was enough for Seaver(5-4) and Chester
Springs.  After the 3rd inning, neither team was able to score.  
 
Jim Kaat(2-3) was the loser.  Gary Scott lamented, 'Seaver was really
aggressive tonight.  He kept coming after our hitters.  Heck, why not. he
kept sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'

At Hickory Park, the Eagle fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.  Pat
Zachry(1-6) finally bested his Honey Brook opposite, Bob Knepper(2-4), 2-0.
 
Zachry delivered a fine performance for Eagle.  He went 5 innings and
surrended up 5 hits and 3 walks lowering his ERA from 5.16 to 4.76.  Honey
Brook could do no damage in the 9th.  
 
Bill Atkinson gained credit for his 9th save.  Knepper absorbed the loss.  He
pitched 7 and 2/3 innings and surrendered just 3 hits and 2 walks.
 
ELVERSON AT MARSHALLTON

In a game for the baseball purist, Doug Rau(5-4) and Eddie Solomon(2-4)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Elverson Squires finally emerged
victorious over Marshallton Mad Hatters, 3-1.
 
Elverson promptly took the lead in their half of the first scoring 2 runners
on 2 hits.  That was all Rau needed.  Elverson finished with just 6 hits in
the victory.  
 
Rau got help from Al Hrabosky who earned his 3rd save.
 
LIONVILLE AT DEVAULT

First baseman Ed Kranepool hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI and Steve
Carlton whiffed 11 batters as the Lionville club defeated the Devault
Dynamiters 8-4 at Great Valley Stadium.
 
Carlton(9-3) gave a fine effort for Lionville.  He surrendered 9 hits and 1
walk in 8 and 1/3 innings.  Lionville finished with 13 hits while Devault
ended up with 9.  
 
Ron Reed recorded his 4th save.  The loss was charged to Rick Sawyer(2-3).
Carlton, when asked about his 11 strikeout performance noted, 'The important
thing is that we won, if I get 20 and we lose, what good does it do our team?
But, on the other hand, since we won it feels great!'
