At Hopewell Field, the Guthriesville faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Rick Reuschel(5-1) finally bested his Guthriesville
counterpart, Larry Christenson(1-5), 1-0.
 
The game's lone run was scored in the top of the 5th inning.  Guthriesville
had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Bill Atkinson got the save, his 6th.  Christenson was the losing pitcher.  He
was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the
game.  
 
KIMBERTON AT MARSHALLTON

Right fielder Ken Griffey smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Four Dogs Field
where the Marshallton Mad Hatters beat the Kimberton Firefighters 9-7.
 
Griffey enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He smashed a two-run homer in the
3rd inning and clubbed a two-run home run in the 5th inning.  Rollie Fingers
was great in relief and recorded his 7th save.  
 
The win went to J.R. Richard(4-4) who allowed 6 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.
Wayne Twitchell(1-4) ended up with the loss.  He was knocked around,
surrendering 6 runs in 3 and 2/3 innings.

They almost ran out of baseballs at The Nest as Devault Dynamiters clobbered
the Honey Brook Beekeepers pitching staff, scoring 12 runs while Tom
Griffin(3-2), with relief help from Butch Metzger, surrendered 2 runs to
Honey Brook.
 
Garry Maddox enjoyed a fine evening at the plate.  He ripped a base-hit in the
1st inning, rifled a three-run blast in the 2nd inning and banged out a
single in the 5th inning.  For the game Devault out-hit Honey Brook 17-5.
 
Griffin got help from Metzger who earned his 1st save.  Mark Lemongello(2-6)
was given the loss.  He was knocked around by Devault, allowing 10 hits and 2
walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.  
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT ELVERSON

Dave Winfield had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Chester Springs team bested the
Elverson Squires 10-3 at French Creek Park.
 
The Elverson fans didn't appreciate the big day Winfield had.  He stroked a
single in the 4th inning, ripped a solo home run in the 6th inning, slapped a
base-hit in the 8th inning and delivered a one-base hit bringing in two
baserunners in the 9th inning.  Chester Springs had 16 hits for the game and
Elverson had 7.  
 
Tom Seaver(4-2) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Jim
Barr(2-4) was hit with the loss.  He allowed 2 runs and 7 hits in 5 and 1/3
innings.
 
GLENMOORE AT LIONVILLE

Designated hitter Greg Luzinski cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the
Lionville ballclub embarrassed the Glenmoore Stableboys 15-3.
 
Luzinski had a good evening at the plate.  He bombed a two-run dinger in the
1st inning, clubbed a solo home run in the 4th inning and lashed a single in
the 8th inning.  Lionville bats were very productive in the 7th inning with 4
runs on 5 hits and the 8th inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits.  Lionville
simply wore out the Glenmoore pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.
 
The winning pitcher was Steve Carlton(7-2) who allowed 1 run in 7 and 1/3
innings. Bill Bonham(5-3) was charged with the loss.  He served up 3 gopher
balls in 5 and 2/3 innings.
