John Candelaria came through with a solid 8 and one third innings as the
Kimberton Firefighters beat the Devault Dynamiters, 5-3.
 
Candelaria(6-3) had a solid outing for Kimberton.  He surrendered 5 hits and
no walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.  Devault tried unsuccessfully to come back in
the 9th.  
 
Candelaria got help from Skip Lockwood who was credited with his 4th save.
Joaquin Andujar(1-4) was given the loss.  'It's a disheartening loss, no
question about it' said Barney Charney 'But we have to get over it and get
ready for the nightcap.'

The Devault Dynamiters bested the Kimberton Firefighters 5-2 at Kimberton 
Fairground.
 
Kimberton was unable to climb back into it after Devault went ahead for good
in the top of the 2nd inning plating 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits.  After an
out was recorded, Del Unser began the Devault spurt when he ripped a one-base
hit.  Gary Carter was next and he blasted a two-run home run.  Devault had a
total of 8 hits for the game.  
 
The win was credited to Rick Sawyer(2-2) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 2
runs. Bruce Sutter recorded the save, his 12th.  The loss was charged to Eric
Rasmussen(3-3).  He surrendered 8 hits and no walks in 9 innings.  
 
EAGLE AT CHESTER SPRINGS, 1st

Center fielder Gary Thomasson jacked one out of the ballyard and had 2 RBI at
Historic Village Park where the Chester Springs team beat the Eagle Eagles 4-2.
 
Chester Springs tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning when they came
up with 4 base hits.  The big moment was provided by Thomasson who thrilled
the crowd when he smashed a two-run homer.  Chester Springs had 9 hits
overall, while Eagle had 6.  
 
The win went to Jerry Reuss(4-2) who allowed 2 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings.
Charlie Hough gained credit for his 11th save.  Randy Moffitt(2-4) absorbed
the loss in relief.  
 
'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Reuss said.
 
EAGLE AT CHESTER SPRINGS, 2nd

Left fielder Terry Puhl smacked 2 triples and scored 3 times and Joe Niekro
took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Chester Springs ballclub crushed
the Eagle Eagles 10-0.
 
Niekro(6-0) put on a good performance.  He allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in
8 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA to 2.09.  The right-handed Niekro lost his
chance for a no-hitter when Glenn Burke singled with nobody out in the 6th
inning.  Chester Springs had 12 hits for the afternoon while Eagle had 4.
 
Don Sutton(3-3) ended up with the loss.  He allowed Chester Springs 7 runs in
3 and 1/3 innings of work.

The Honey Brook Beekeepers defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys 8-5 at Bentley 
Stadium.
 
Cesar Geronimo had a big day with his bat.  He clubbed a two-run home run in
the 1st inning and doubled bringing home two baserunners in the 6th inning.
Dave Campbell pitched a perfect ninth and was credited with his 1st save.
 
The victory was credited to Mark Lemongello(3-6) who went 6 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 4 runs. Floyd Bannister(1-6) suffered the loss.  Honey Brook knocked
him around a bit, as he gave up 8 runs in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
MARSHALLTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Tom Underwood(3-3) and Andy Messersmith(0-1) locked horns in a pitcher's duel
with Underwood and the Marshallton Mad Hatters coming out on top of the
Guthriesville Golddiggers 3-1.
 
Underwood pitched a fine game.  He went 5 innings surrendering 4 hits and 4
walks.  Guthriesville had a chance in the 9th but they came up short.
 
Underwood was helped out by Rollie Fingers who recorded his 8th save.  'I was
a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Underwood, 'I was just
giving us a chance to win.'

At Foster Field the Elverson Squires were battered 11-6 by the Lionville club.
 
Greg Luzinski enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He launched a three-run
homer in the 3rd inning and stroked a base-hit in the 6th inning.  Lionville
rapped out 14 hits for the night.  
 
Randy Jones(3-2) went 7 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. Doug Rau(3-4) was
hit with the loss.  He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 7 runs in 2
and 1/3 innings.  
 
Jack Clark cracked 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI but his offense was not enough to
carry Elverson to victory.
