Catcher Biff Pocoroba had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Glenmoore Stableboys
outscored the Eagle Eagles 6-2.
Glenmoore had 5 runs cross the plate in the top of the 7th inning when they
came up with 3 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Pocoroba who
silenced the crowd when he doubled which was good for two runs. Glenmoore
had 10 hits for the game and Eagle had 6.
Rick Rhoden(4-2) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Timothy
Jones was credited with his 1st save. Dick Ruthven(2-4) suffered the loss in
relief. He allowed Glenmoore 5 runs in 3 and 1/3 innings of work.

736 fans were treated to a fine game at Four Dogs Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end. The Chester Springs club won by the
slimmest of margins, 3-2, over the Marshallton Mad Hatters.
The deciding run was scored by Chester Springs in the 9th. Dave Winfield
clubbed a solo home run. Rennie Stennett next to the plate and he singled.
One out later, Jose Cardenal struck out, unable to help the rally. Gary
Thomasson followed and he drew a walk. Chester Springs rapped out 7 hits for
the afternoon.
Phil Niekro(6-1) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 innings and allowing 2
runs. Niekro was helped out by Charlie Hough who recorded his 10th save. The
losing pitcher was Rollie Fingers(0-3) in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3
innings allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.
'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Niekro said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'

The Chester Springs team toppled the Marshallton Mad Hatters by a 13-9
score at Four Dogs Field.
The game started off with Chester Springs taking the lead in the first scoring
2 runners on 4 hits. Even though they scored in 5 different innings,
Marshallton was not able to pull off the win.
The victory went to Jim Rooker(4-3) who went 6 innings, allowing 7 runs. Jack
Billingham earned the save, his 1st. Tom Underwood(2-3) ended up with the
loss. He saw his ERA jump from 4.89 to 6.14 as gave up 6 runs in 1 and 2/3
innings.

Shortstop Frank Taveras had 4 hits and 2 RBI at The Nest as the Kimberton
Firefighters beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers 8-5.
Bob Myrick(1-1) got the win with a nice relief outing. He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 2 hits and no walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. Kimberton had
16 hits for the night while Honey Brook had 9.
Dave Campbell(1-2) absorbed the loss in relief.

Darrell Evans cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at French Creek Park as the
Devault Dynamiters beat the Elverson Squires 7-4.
Elverson was unable to climb back into it after Devault went ahead for good in
the top of the 5th inning plating one baserunner on 2 base hits. Elverson
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Tommy John(5-4) went 8 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. John got relief
help from Bruce Sutter who gained credit for his 11th save. Ed Halicki(1-4)
was hit with the loss. He was knocked around by Devault, allowing 11 hits
and 2 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

In a game for the baseball purist, Bruce Kison(3-3) and Steve Rogers(4-3)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Lionville club finally emerged
victorious over Guthriesville Golddiggers, 3-1.
Lionville went ahead for good in the top of the 3rd inning scoring one runner.
Lionville totaled 9 hits on the afternoon.
Joe Sambito gained credit for his 3rd save. 'It wasn't my best outing, but
I'll take the win' Kison said.
