Gary Nolan went the distance and Ken Griffey had 2 base hits and 2 RBI as the
Marshallton Mad Hatters defeated the Kimberton Firefighters 8-1 at Four
Dogs Field.
 
Marshallton came up with 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with the help
of 4 hits.  The big moment was provided by Griffey who elicited a roar from
the hometown fans when he laced a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners.
Marshallton rapped out 10 hits for the night.  
 
The victory was credited to Nolan(5-7) who went the distance, allowing 1 run.
John Candelaria(11-1) took the loss.  He was pinned with the loss despite not
allowing an earned run in his 3 and 2/3 innings of work.  
 
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT HONEY BROOK

Center fielder Rick Monday homered and had 3 RBI at The Nest as the Chester
Springs team beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers 7-5.
 
Chester Springs claimed the early lead in the first inning scoring one runner.
Chester Springs had 12 hits for the game and Honey Brook had 8.  
 
The victory went to Jim Rooker(4-6) who went 7 innings, allowing 5 runs.
Charlie Hough was credited with his 15th save.  Ray Burris(4-11) was the
losing pitcher.  He got hit hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 2/3
innings.  
 
'Wow.  That's about all I can think to say.' said Jim Ghoulach following the
victory.  'If ever a team needed a win, it was us.'
 
DEVAULT AT ELVERSON

Jon Matlack hurled a fine complete game shutout and Dave Kingman blasted a
homerun and had 2 RBI at French Creek Park where the Devault Dynamiters beat
the Elverson Squires 6-0.
 
Matlack(7-3) put on a good performance.  He allowed only 4 hits and 8 walks in
9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.98 to 2.76.  Devault totaled 10 hits on
the night.  
 
Jim Barr(7-7) was charged with the loss.  He gave up 2 runs and 7 hits in 7
innings.
 
EAGLE AT GUTHRIESVILLE

In an great finish the Guthriesville Golddiggers won in dramatic fashion over
the Eagle Eagles 6-5 at Hopewell Field.
 
Guthriesville had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs.  Champ Summers led off and started the rally when he reached
on an error.  Lou Brock followed and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  One out
later, Cesar Cedeno stepped in and he popped a two-run clout over the fence
giving Guthriesville the win as 98 happy fans joyfully celebrated.
Guthriesville finished with 11 hits in the victory.  
 
Bob Apodaca(5-3) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings.
Randy Moffitt(3-5) suffered the loss in relief.  Gary Scott was in great
spirits in his post-game interview.  Yet, when asked about his feelings after
the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I
know how my counterpart, Bob Phillips, feels right now - and it's not very
good.  It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!'

In a good matchup it was the powerful Lionville club 6, the Glenmoore
Stableboys 3 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Glenmoore never recovered after Lionville took the lead in the 7th inning
plating one baserunner on 2 base hits.  Lionville kept the pressure on
throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.  
 
Burt Hooton(8-3) went 7 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Ken Sanders
gained credit for his 3rd save.  The loss was charged to Bo McLaughlin(0-4).
