In a game for the baseball purist, Mickey Lolich(5-6) and Jerry Reuss(6-5)
squared off in a tense pitching duel, Glenmoore Stableboys finally emerged
victorious over Chester Springs club, 1-0.
 
The game's lone run was scored in the bottom of the 6th inning.  After an out
was recorded, Wilbur Howard hit a bases-empty home run.  Larry Herndon
followed next and he banged out a single.  One out later, Herndon got a good
lead and stole second.  Gene Garber was perfect in relief and got the save,
his 18th.

Dick Allen smashed 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the sizzling Eagle Eagles
defeated the Honey Brook Beekeepers in 14 innings 10-7 at The Nest.
 
Both teams were tied at 5 runs apiece after nine innings.  Eagle won the hard
fought contest in the 14th inning.  Pete Rose led off the inning for Eagle
when he stroked a base-hit.  Jerry White came to the plate and smacked a
single.  George Foster was the next batter, but he struck out.  Allen
followed and he clubbed a three-run home run.  Dave Parker stepped into the
box and delivered a one-base hit.  Parker was running on the next pitch and
he stole second.  After another out, Bill Plummer stepped up to the plate and
he was walked intentionally.  Bud Harrelson was next to bat, but he was a
strikeout victim.  The score went back-and-forth with the lead changing 5
times.  
 
The win was credited to Chip Lang(3-1) who went 2 and 2/3 innings allowing no
runs. John D'Acquisto(0-2) was the loser in relief.  He was knocked around
pretty good, giving up 5 runs in 2 and 1/3 innings.  
 
 
MARSHALLTON AT ELVERSON

Gary Nolan had a complete game and right fielder Ken Griffey had 4 hits and 2
RBI as the streaking Marshallton Mad Hatters clobbered the outmatched
Elverson Squires, 14-4.
 
Nolan(8-7) pitched a fine game.  He allowed 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings
and served up 2 'big flies'.  Marshallton banged out 18 hits on the night.
 
Doug Rau(8-7) was tagged with the loss.  He pitched 6 innings giving up 8 hits
and 1 walk.
 
KIMBERTON AT GUTHRIESVILLE

Larry Dierker tossed a complete game as the Guthriesville Golddiggers pulled
out a win over the Kimberton Firefighters by a score of 7-6 at Hopewell Field.
 
Guthriesville won the game with a run in the 9th inning.  After an out was
recorded, Derrel Thomas drew a walk.  Cesar Cedeno followed and he doubled
resulting in an exciting win for Guthriesville and a wild post-game
celebration by the home town fans.  Guthriesville totaled 10 hits on the
night.  
 
The victory was credited to Dierker(4-9) who went the distance, allowing 6
runs. Carl Morton(3-6) absorbed the loss in relief.  
 
'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Dierker said,
'this was one of those times.'
 
DEVAULT AT LIONVILLE

Catcher Ted Simmons had 2 base hits at Foster Field where the Lionville
ballclub beat the Devault Dynamiters 4-2.
 
Lionville tallied 3 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 4 hits.  They
would prove to be the difference in the contest.  The Devault batters went
down meekly in the 9th.  
 
Randy Jones(16-3) went 8 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Ron
Reed earned his 10th save.  Joe Kerrigan(1-1) took the loss in relief.  He
allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 2/3 of an inning.
