Eagle won the game with a run in the top of the 8th inning. Foster clubbed a solo home run. After an out was recorded, Dan Driessen stepped in and he reached on an error. After another out, Driessen was safe at second on a stolen base. Darrel Chaney came up and he laced a base-hit. Kimberton had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up short. The victory was credited to Mike Marshall(6-3) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no runs. Gene Pentz preserved the game for Marshall, recording his his 2nd. Skip Lockwood(1-2) was given the loss in relief. Rich Pawlak was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one. That is what really ticks me off!' Eagle jumped on top to stay in the top of the 2nd inning as they scored 3 runs on 2 base hits. That was all the offense they were to need. Eagle won despite being out-hit by Kimberton 11 hits to 8. Pat Zachry(7-7) got the win allowing 1 run in 6 and 2/3 innings. Chip Lang recorded his 1st save. Steve Stone(3-5) was charged with the loss. He allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings. Elverson scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning when they came up with 3 base hits. It was enough scoring to earn the victory. The pitchers took over after the 4th inning as neither team was able to score again. The winning pitcher was Bob Forsch(5-4) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Forsch got help from Al Hrabosky who earned his 8th save. The losing pitcher was Alan Foster(0-3). He surrendered 9 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. MARSHALLTON AT GLENMOORE Mad Hatters..... 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 8 1 Stableboys...... 3 0 2 2 1 0 0 1 - 9 13 0 Win:Lacorte(5-5) Loss:Underwood(6-2) Homeruns- L.Herndon(4th) Frank Lacorte was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game and center fielder Larry Herndon had 4 hits and scored 4 times as the Glenmoore Stableboys defeated the Marshallton Mad Hatters 9-1 at Bentley Stadium. Glenmoore promptly took the lead in their half of the first plating 3 runs utilizing 3 base hits. Merv Rettenmund got things going when he smacked a single. Herndon followed and he slapped a base-hit. Dave Concepcion then drew a walk to load the bases. Richie Hebner was up next and he drew a walk. Willie Montanez came up to bat and grounded into a double play. Mike Anderson added to the rally and ripped a single. The early run support proved sufficient for Lacorte(5-5) and Glenmoore. That was all the run support Lacorte required. Glenmoore finished with 13 hits in the victory. Tom Underwood(6-2) suffered the loss. By surrending 3 runs in 2/3 of an inning his ERA jumped from 4.75 to 5.25. CHESTER SPRINGS AT DEVAULT Two-Fivers...... 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 5 0 Dynamiters...... 1 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 - 2 11 0 Win:Matlack(8-3) Loss:Reuss(5-4) Save:Sutter(15th) Homeruns- R.Monday(14th) Garry Maddox had 2 base hits as the Devault Dynamiters ended their 9-game losing streak by beating the Chester Springs team 2-1 at Great Valley Stadium. Jon Matlack(8-3) earned his pay with a solid performance for Devault. He went 6 innings surrendering 3 hits and 1 walk. Devault had 11 hits overall, while Chester Springs had 5. Bruce Sutter was credited with his 15th save. Jerry Reuss(5-4) took the loss. He gave up 2 runs and 11 hits in 8 innings. The score was tied at 5 after nine. Honey Brook won the hard fought contest in the 14th inning. Gary Matthews drew a walk. After an out was recorded, Dusty Baker came to the plate and slapped a one-base hit. Phillips then doubled. Lionville was out-hit by Honey Brook, 16 hits to 13. Tug McGraw(7-4) allowed no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. McGraw got relief help from Darold Knowles who gained credit for his 1st save. Joe Sambito(3-2) ended up with the loss in relief.
