J.R. Richard pitched a 3 hitter as the Marshallton Mad Hatters defeated the
Eagle Eagles 4-1 at Hickory Park.
 
Marshallton scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning with the help of 5 hits.  Gary
Roenicke started the scoring when he blasted a solo shot.  After an out was
recorded, Mike Ivie came to bat and banged out a single.  Roger Metzger then
tripled.  Mike Adams followed next and he would ground out.  Ken Griffey
stepped into the box and hit a single.  Griffey got a good lead and stole
second.  Bill Buckner stepped into the batter's box and he lashed a single.
Ron Cey then drew a walk to load the bases.  That early scoring held up.
Marshallton had 10 hits for the night.  
 
Richard(7-6) finished the game allowing 1 run in the victory. The loss was
charged to Don Sutton(7-5).  He surrendered 10 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings.
 
GLENMOORE AT KIMBERTON

Jim Lonborg went the distance at Kimberton Fairground as the Glenmoore
Stableboys lost a heartbreaker to Kimberton Firefighters 3-2.
 
The deciding run was scored by Kimberton in the 9th.  Jerry Turner reached on
an error.  Manny Trillo got his chance to keep things going, but he went down
on strikes.  George Mitterwald then laced a single making Kimberton the
victors to the delight of the home town faithful.  Kimberton had only 6 hits
for the game.  
 
The win went to Lonborg(7-6) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Paul
Reuschel(2-3) was tagged with the loss.  He allowed 3 runs and 6 hits in 8
and 1/3 innings.
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT DEVAULT

In a good matchup it was the Guthriesville Golddiggers 7, the Devault
Dynamiters 4 at Great Valley Stadium.
 
John Curtis(3-1) earned his pay with a solid performance for Guthriesville.
He allowed 9 hits and 3 walks in 7 and 1/3 innings.  Overall Guthriesville
out-hit Devault 15 to 10.  
 
Bob Apodaca gained credit for his 1st save. Lynn McGlothen(7-5) was the loser.
He was touched for 13 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.  
 
For Guthriesville the victory was a welcome one, indeed.  They had been
struggling in their last ten games with a disappointing 2-8 record.
 
HONEY BROOK AT ELVERSON

Jay Johnstone had 3 base hits as the Honey Brook Beekeepers bested the
Elverson Squires 1-0 at French Creek Park.
 
Darold Knowles(4-0) was brilliant in relief and registered the victory.  He
surrendered only 1 hit and 1 walk in 3 innings.  Elverson made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.  
 
Tug McGraw earned the save, his 10th.  Dave Heaverlo(1-2) was the losing
pitcher in relief.  'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' John
Carney said. 'We did what we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can
you say?'
 
LIONVILLE AT CHESTER SPRINGS

Gary Thomasson touched them all and had 4 RBI as the Chester Springs ballclub
defeated the Lionville team 12-7 at Historic Village Park.
 
Thomasson helped send the fans home happy.  He lifted one out of the park for
a two run home run in the 3rd inning and doubled which was good for two runs
in the 8th inning.  Chester Springs finished with 18 hits while Lionville
ended up with 10.  
 
Bob Moose(3-1) went 5 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Moose got help
from Charlie Hough who earned his 17th save.  Steve Carlton(8-3) was given
the loss.  Chester Springs scored big getting 7 runs off him in 4 and 1/3
innings.
