Rau(8-5) was solid in the win. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 4 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 2/3 innings. The left-handed Rau lost his no-hit bid when Dan Driessen singled with one out in the 6th inning. Overall Elverson out-hit Eagle 14-4. Pat Zachry(6-7) was the loser. He was knocked around by Elverson, allowing 8 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings. Chester Springs tallied 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. After two were out Stennett was the sparkplug when he doubled. Dave May followed and he bombed a two-run dinger. Chester Springs had 11 hits for the game and Glenmoore had 8. Jack Billingham(3-6) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Charlie Hough got the save, his 19th. Rick Rhoden(5-4) absorbed the loss. He was unable to control the Chester Springs offense and allowed 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Steve Renko(6-3) finally bested his Honey Brook opposite, Ray Burris(5-12), 4-0. Renko pitched a solid game. He allowed 5 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings lowering his ERA to 4.12. After the 2nd inning, neither team was able to score. Rawly Eastwick earned his 20th save. The loss was charged to Burris. GUTHRIESVILLE AT KIMBERTON Golddiggers..... 1 0 1 0 0 0 1 3 0 - 6 9 0 Firefighters.... 3 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 4 9 0 Win:Christenson(2-6) Loss:Morton(3-5) Save:Forsch(11th) Keith Hernandez had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Kimberton Fairground where the Guthriesville Golddiggers beat the Kimberton Firefighters 6-4. Guthriesville came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 8th inning with 3 runs using 2 hits. Cesar Cedeno led off and started the attack as he laced a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Champ Summers stepped in and he drew a walk. After another out, Enos Cabell came to bat and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Bombo Rivera came up and he doubled. Von Joshua came up to bat and was walked intentionally. Bobby Tolan was next to bat, but he was a strikeout victim. Both teams finished the game with 9 hits. Larry Christenson(2-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 1/3 innings and allowing 4 runs. Christenson was helped out by Ken Forsch who recorded his 11th save. Carl Morton(3-5) took the loss in relief. Lionville set the tone of the game in the first inning plating one baserunner. Lionville out-hit Devault for the game, 9-6. The win was credited to Steve Carlton(9-3) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 1 run. Ron Reed was credited with his 9th save. The losing pitcher was Tommy John(5-6). Barney Charney was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along lately, that's 8 straight losses. That won't get it done.'
