814 fans were treated to a fine game at Four Dogs Field as only one run
separated the combatants at game's end.  The Marshallton Mad Hatters won by
the slimmest of margins, 2-1, over the Devault Dynamiters.
 
Steve Dunning(4-0) pitched well in relief and was credited with the victory.
He went 1 inning allowing no hits and 1 walk.  Devault made it exciting in
the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.  
 
Dunning got relief help from Adrian Devine who gained credit for his 6th save.
Rick Sawyer(0-4) was given the loss in relief.  
 
In another of a string of victories, Marshallton knocked extended their
winning streak to 6 games.

In a two run game the Honey Brook Beekeepers got by the Kimberton Firefighters
in 10 innings 5-3.
 
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings.  Honey Brook came
out the victor in the 10th inning.  After two were out Gary Matthews
jump-started the rally as he stroked a single.  Willie Stargell stepped up
next and he popped a two-run clout over the fence giving Honey Brook the
victory and sending the 1,111 home-town fans home happy.  Honey Brook
finished with 10 hits in the victory.  
 
Tug McGraw(5-4) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 and 1/3 innings.
Carl Morton(3-3) suffered the loss in relief.  He surrendered 2 runs and 4
hits in 3 and 1/3 innings.

Left fielder George Foster had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Bentley Stadium as the
Eagle Eagles beat the Glenmoore Stableboys in 10 innings 4-3.
 
The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings.  Eagle won the hard
fought contest in the 10th inning.  Foster tripled.  Two outs later Felix
Millan stepped in and he hit a single.  Glenmoore could do no damage in the
bottom of the 10th.  
 
Mike Marshall(3-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and
allowing no runs. Rick Rhoden(4-3) was hit with the loss.
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT ELVERSON

John Denny recorded a complete game shutout as the Elverson Squires defeated
the Chester Springs team 6-0 at French Creek Park.
 
Denny(3-8) contributed a very nicely pitched game.  He didn't allow much, just
5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 5.14 to 4.59.
Elverson managed 8 hits in their victory.  
 
Phil Niekro(6-6) was charged with the loss.  He allowed 6 runs and 6 hits in 6
innings.
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT LIONVILLE

Randy Jones went 9 solid innings and third baseman Ken Reitz had 3 base hits
and 2 RBI at Foster Field as the Lionville club beat the dreadful
Guthriesville Golddiggers 7-1.
 
Lionville drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
when they tallied 4 runs on 3 hits.  That was all the offense they were to
need.  Lionville banged out 13 hits on the night.  
 
The victory was credited to Jones(12-2) who went the distance, allowing 1 run.
Larry Christenson(1-6) ended up with the loss.  He was hit hard and gave up
12 hits and 5 walks in 6 innings.  
 
'We didn't have a whole lot of chances tonight,' Gary Scott said.  'Jones just
was too much for our guys.'
