J.R. Richard pitched a 2 hit shutout at Four Dogs Field as the Marshallton Mad
Hatters beat the Devault Dynamiters 1-0.
 
Richard(6-5) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Devault batters.  He didn't give up much, just 2 hits and 5 walks in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 3.04 to 2.78.  Marshallton had only 3 hits
for the game.  
 
Jon Matlack(6-3) took the loss.  He gave up 1 run and 3 hits in 8 innings.

1,021 fans watched an exciting game at Four Dogs Field.  The Marshallton Mad
Hatters tallied 6 runs in the 2nd inning and topped the Devault Dynamiters by
the slimmest of margins, 9-8.
 
Tom Underwood(6-1) was not on his game this afternoon, but the Marshallton
offense bailed him out.  He gave up 7 runs in 5 innings.  Devault had a
chance in the 9th but they came up short.  
 
Rawly Eastwick recorded his 17th save.  Joaquin Andujar(2-4) was the losing
pitcher.  'Just one or two mistakes were all it took to beat us today' Barney
Charney said.  'We take these games one day at a time, but this one was hard
to take.'
 
KIMBERTON AT HONEY BROOK, 1st

Bill Madlock had 2 base hits as the Kimberton Firefighters outscored the Honey
Brook Beekeepers 3-2.
 
The deciding run was scored by Kimberton in the top of the 9th.  After two
were out Pepe Mangual hit a single.  Greg Gross came next and he drew a walk.
Madlock then singled.  Honey Brook had 10 hits in the game while Kimberton
had 7, but Kimberton had the more timely hits.  
 
Steve Stone(3-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Stone was helped out by Skip Lockwood who recorded his 16th save.
Tug McGraw(4-4) was given the loss in relief.  
 
 
KIMBERTON AT HONEY BROOK, 2nd

The Honey Brook Beekeepers edged the Kimberton Firefighters at The Nest by the
score of 3-2.
 
Santo Alcala(3-4) had a steady outing.  He surrendered 6 hits and 3 walks in 5
and 1/3 innings.  Both teams' bats went to sleep after the 4th inning with no
runs scored after that point.  
 
Tug McGraw recorded the save, his 8th.  Eric Rasmussen(1-6) was the loser.  He
pitched 6 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks.
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT GLENMOORE

Bo McLaughlin came through with a solid 5 innings and Johnny Grubb had 4 hits
and 2 RBI at Bentley Stadium where the Glenmoore Stableboys beat the
Guthriesville Golddiggers in 12 innings 4-3.
 
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Glenmoore won the hard fought
contest in the 12th inning.  After an out was recorded, Rob Andrews lashed a
single.  Bake McBride followed and he laced a base-knock.  Willie Crawford
then lined a single giving Glenmoore the victory and sending the 868
home-town fans home happy.  Glenmoore ended up with 17 hits for the game
while Guthriesville had 12.  
 
The winning pitcher was Gary Lavelle(4-0) who allowed no runs in 2/3 of an
inning. The losing pitcher was Ken Forsch(1-5) in relief.  He pitched 3
innings giving up 4 hits and no walks.

Doug Rau allowed John Carney to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the Elverson Squires defeated the Chester Springs team 7-5 at French Creek
Park.
 
Al Oliver made sure the Elverson fans enjoyed themselves.  He doubled in the
3rd inning, electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run in the 4th
inning and banged out a single in the 6th inning.  Both teams totaled 8 hits
on the afternoon.  
 
Rau(6-5) allowed 5 runs on the game. Roger Moret(1-1) was charged with the
loss in relief.  He was hit hard and gave up 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings.

Jim Barr(7-6) and Jim Rooker(3-6) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with Barr
and the Elverson Squires coming out on top of the Chester Springs club 3-1.
 
Barr gave Elverson a solid outing.  He was reached for 5 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings.  After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.  
 
Dave Heaverlo earned the save, his 3rd.

At Foster Field the Lionville ballclub outscored the Eagle Eagles 5-2.
 
In the 7th inning Lionville scored 3 runs when they had 5 base hits.  They
would be enough to earn the win.  Lionville had 11 hits overall, while Eagle
had 6.  
 
The win was credited to Joe Sambito(3-1) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.
Ron Reed got the save, his 8th.  Don Sutton(6-4) was the loser.  He was
unable to control the Lionville offense and allowed 11 hits and 3 walks in 8
innings.  
 
 
EAGLE AT LIONVILLE, 2nd

Bud Harrelson cracked a homer and had 3 RBI and Rick Reuschel completed the
game without help from the bullpen at Foster Field where the Eagle Eagles
beat the Lionville team 11-2.
 
Harrelson enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He tripled scoring two baserunners
in the 4th inning and blasted a solo shot in the 7th inning.  Eagle had a
total of 13 hits for the game.  
 
The victory was credited to Reuschel(8-6) who went the distance, allowing 2
runs. Burt Hooton(7-3) took the loss.  He allowed Eagle 7 runs in 3 and 1/3
innings of work.
