Left fielder Bill Buckner collected 2 extra-base hits and scored 3 times as
the Marshallton Mad Hatters defeated the Chester Springs team 6-1 at Four
Dogs Field.
 
Marshallton promptly took the lead in their half of the first scoring a single
run on 2 hits.  After an out was recorded, Buckner laced a one-base hit.
After another out, Ron Hodges came up and he doubled.  Rowland Office then
drew a walk.  Mike Ivie was next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.
Marshallton had 12 hits for the night while Chester Springs had 9.  
 
The winning pitcher was Brent Strom(9-3) who allowed 1 run in 8 and 2/3
innings. Jack Billingham(1-5) was charged with the loss.  He got hit pretty
hard, allowing 11 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Bill Robinson had 3 base hits and 3 RBI at The Nest where the Devault
Dynamiters beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers in 17 innings by the score of 
13-8.
 
Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings.  Devault won it in
the 17th inning.  The critical plate appearance was by Robinson who deflated
the spirits of the home town crowd when he smacked a single bringing home two
baserunners.  Devault kept the scorekeepers busy in the 17th inning with 5
runs on 5 hits.  Devault had 23 hits overall, while Honey Brook had 18.
 
Joe Kerrigan(1-0) went 3 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Kerrigan was helped out by Rick Sawyer who recorded his 1st save.  Santo
Alcala(2-4) absorbed the loss in relief.  He got hit hard, allowing 8 hits
and 3 walks in 5 innings.  
 
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT GLENMOORE

At Bentley Stadium the Guthriesville Golddiggers outscored the Glenmoore
Stableboys 4-1.
 
Guthriesville brought 3 runs across the plate in the 4th inning.  Cesar Cedeno
got things going when he ripped a single.  Lou Brock came to the plate and
drew a walk.  After an out was recorded, Enos Cabell came to bat and stroked
a single.  Cabell took second on the throw.  Don Gullett then let a pitch get
away from him.  Don Kessinger stepped into the box and hit a sacrifice fly.
Guthriesville totaled 8 hits on the night.  
 
Steve Rogers(4-7) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 8 and 1/3 innings.
Ken Forsch preserved the game for Rogers, recording his his 9th.
Gullett(2-4) was hit with the loss.  His ERA increased from 2.18 to 2.52 as
he allowed 3 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.  
 
 
KIMBERTON AT ELVERSON

John Candelaria went the distance as the Kimberton Firefighters topped the
Elverson Squires 6-1 at French Creek Park.
 
Bill Madlock enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He rifled a three-run blast
in the 4th inning, banged out a single in the 6th inning and doubled which
brought home a run in the 9th inning.  Kimberton rapped out 9 hits for the
night.  
 
The win was credited to Candelaria(11-0) who went the whole way allowing 1
run. John Denny(2-8) ended up with the loss.  He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings
and surrendered 9 hits and 4 walks.
 
 
EAGLE AT LIONVILLE

Center fielder Willie Davis hit a homerun and had 6 RBI and Steve Carlton
pitched 9 strong innings at Foster Field where the Lionville ballclub beat
the Eagle Eagles 11-2.
 
Davis provided much of the offense.  He launched a three-run homer in the 1st
inning, ripped a base-hit in the 2nd inning and doubled clearing the bases in
the 6th inning.  Lionville managed 12 hits in their victory.  
 
The win went to Carlton(7-2) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Don Sutton(6-3)
was tagged with the loss.  'Some days it just all comes together, and this
was one of them' Davis said.  'I've been seeing the ball pretty well lately.'
