At Great Valley Stadium the Kimberton Firefighters were battered 7-2 by the
Devault Dynamiters.
 
Randy Lerch(4-10) was solid if not spectacular.  He went 5 innings and
surrended up 8 hits and 1 walk.  Devault managed 10 hits in their victory.
 
Bruce Sutter got the save, his 18th.  The losing pitcher was Fred Norman(6-4).
He gave up 7 runs and 8 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.

In a one-sided affiar at Hickory Park the final score was the Eagle Eagles 10,
the Chester Springs club 3.
 
Eagle drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning
scoring 2 runners on 1 hit.  Chester Springs was out-hit by Eagle, 13-7.
 
Rick Reuschel(7-2) went 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Gene
Pentz preserved the game for Reuschel, recording his his 1st.  Phil
Niekro(8-6) was the loser.  He was knocked around by Eagle, allowing 12 hits
and 6 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.  
 
GLENMOORE AT MARSHALLTON

Catcher Johnny Bench connected with a 'big fly' and had 2 RBI and John
Montefusco tossed a fine 3 hitter as the Glenmoore Stableboys bested the
Marshallton Mad Hatters 9-1 at Four Dogs Field.
 
Marshallton never recovered after Glenmoore took the lead in the 2nd inning as
they scored 2 runs on 3 base hits.  That early scoring was all that
Montefusco(5-3) needed.  Glenmoore finished with 11 hits in the victory.
 
Odell Jones(4-1) was tagged with the loss.  'Montefusco took our guys to
school' John Young said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my
job a whole lot easier!'
 
GUTHRIESVILLE AT ELVERSON

In a thrilling finish the Elverson Squires won in dramatic fashion coming back
to beat the Guthriesville Golddiggers 7-6.
 
Elverson scored the winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning plating 2
runs using 2 hits.  John Milner got things going when he laced a base-hit.  A
balk was called.  Gary Alexander dug into the batters box next, but he struck
out.  Lee Mazzilli came up and he drew a walk.  Ellis Valentine came to the
plate and hit a single.  Valentine took second on the throw.  One out later,
Kent Tekulve stepped in and he threw a wild pitch.  A wild affair, this game
saw the lead change 6 times.  
 
Dave Tomlin(3-0) got the win allowing 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings. Tekulve(3-9)
was given the loss in relief.  He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits
and 1 walk.
 
John Carney was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim
there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans -
they kept cheering us on.  What a sweet win!'
 
LIONVILLE AT HONEY BROOK

1,157 fans watched an exciting game at The Nest.  The Lionville team topped
the Honey Brook Beekeepers by the slimmest of margins, 4-3.
 
Lionville came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 8th inning with 2
runs.  Joe Morgan opened up the inning nicely when he drew a walk.  After an
out was recorded, Andre Dawson came to bat and lifted one out of the park for
a two run home run.  Honey Brook threatened in the 9th but their rally came
up short.  
 
The winning pitcher was Fred Holdsworth(1-3) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 1/3
innings. Ron Reed was credited with his 5th save.  Dave Freisleben(1-8) ended
up with the loss.  He served up 3 gopher balls in 7 and 1/3 innings.
