Tom Griffin pitched a 2 hit shutout and right fielder Jeff Burroughs jacked
one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI as the Devault Dynamiters really laid
it on the Kimberton Firefighters 16-0.
Burroughs helped send the fans home happy. He lined a base-hit scoring two
baserunners in the 4th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in the 7th
inning. Devault provided plenty of action in the 4th inning with 5 runs on 4
hits and the 7th inning when they had 5 runs on 6 hits. Devault had many
opportunities throughout the game and scored in 6 separate innings.
Griffin(6-2) went the distance for the shutout. Eric Rasmussen(6-6) was the
losing pitcher. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 10 hits and
2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.

The hometown crowd was rewarded with a dramatic ending, as the Devault
Dynamiters staged a comeback win over the Kimberton Firefighters 4-3.
Devault came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs on 3
hits. Gary Carter led off and he slapped a single. Dave Kingman followed
and he banged out a single, and an error was also committed. Garry Maddox
got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Tony Perez stepped in and
he was walked intentionally to load the bases. After another out, Darrell
Evans came to bat and doubled giving Devault the victory and sending the 819
home-town fans home happy. Devault had 9 hits for the night while Kimberton
had 3.
Butch Metzger(4-1) got the win allowing no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings. Skip
Lockwood(3-5) took the loss in relief. He pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing
3 hits and 1 walk.
'Wow, that was fun!', Metzger said following the game. 'Once in a while you
play a game that reminds you just why you got into this business to begin
with!'

Tom Seaver went 9 strong innings as the Chester Springs team defeated the
Eagle Eagles 1-0 at Hickory Park.
Seaver(9-5) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Eagle batters. He gave up just 4 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Eagle
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Don Stanhouse(3-5) was hit with the loss. Jim Ghoulach was very impressed
with his pitcher, Seaver, 'He had unusually good pitch placement this
afternoon. It was almost unfair - but a beautiful game to watch from where I
sat'

Willie McCovey had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the Chester Springs club defeated the
Eagle Eagles 4-3 at Hickory Park.
Eagle found themselves trailing quickly as the Chester Springs bats came
through in the first inning when they scored 3 runs on 4 hits. The critical
plate appearance was by McCovey who deflated the spirits of the home town
crowd when he blasted a two-run home run. Both teams totaled 8 hits on the
afternoon.
Dale Murray(2-0) went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Murray
got relief help from Charlie Hough who gained credit for his 18th save. Don
Sutton(8-5) was tagged with the loss.

Ron Cey hit one over the fence as the Marshallton Mad Hatters topped the
Glenmoore Stableboys 5-3 at Four Dogs Field.
Marshallton went ahead for good in the bottom of the 4th inning scoring one
runner utilizing 2 base hits. Glenmoore tried unsuccessfully to come back in
the 9th.
Jackson Todd(2-3) allowed 1 run in 7 innings, and picked up the victory.
Rollie Fingers recorded his 11th save. The losing pitcher was Rick
Rhoden(5-5).
Barry Bentley was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'

Enos Cabell left the yard and had 3 RBI at French Creek Park as the
Guthriesville Golddiggers beat the Elverson Squires 5-3.
Guthriesville came up with 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning when they had 4
base hits. The key at-bat was by Cabell who helped quiet the crowd when he
clubbed a two-run home run. Elverson had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.
The victory went to Steve Rogers(9-6) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Kent Tekulve earned his 8th save. Jim Barr(4-11) ended up with the
loss.

The Elverson Squires nipped the Guthriesville Golddiggers 4-3 at French Creek
Park in a hard fought contest.
Elverson started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first plating one baserunner. Guthriesville tried unsuccessfully to come
back in the 9th.
The winning pitcher was Bob Forsch(7-4) who allowed 1 run in 7 and 2/3
innings. Mike Garman preserved the game for Forsch, recording his his 13th.
The loss was charged to Buzz Capra(2-6). Elverson scored big getting 4 runs
off him in 3 and 2/3 innings.
'We didn't get the key hits when we needed them' Gary Scott said. 'We did what
we could, we just didn't pull out the win. What can you say?'
LIONVILLE AT HONEY BROOK

Jerry Koosman dominated striking out 12 Lionville batters as the Honey Brook
Beekeepers outscored the Lionville team in 10 innings 1-0.
Neither team scored in the first nine innings. Honey Brook won the game in
the 10th inning. Cliff Johnson smashed a solo-shot out of the park resulting
in an exciting win for Honey Brook and a wild post-game celebration by the
home town fans. Honey Brook finished with just 4 hits in the victory.
For Koosman(8-6) it was his 2nd shutout this year. Burt Hooton(4-5) took the
loss. He gave up just 1 run and 4 hits in 9 innings.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the performance of Koosman - except Lionville. Jon
Brams lamented, 'He just was 'on' this afternoon. He was keeping our guys
off balance all game. A fine game by a good strikeout pitcher - makes it a
fun game for the hometown fans - unfortunately we were the visitors!'
