Eagle jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 4 runners on 5 hits. That early scoring was all that Sutton(14-7) needed. Eagle managed 12 hits in their victory. Andy Messersmith(6-12) was the loser. He allowed 9 hits and 4 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. Eagle extended their winning streak to 8 games. Kimberton had the winning rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 4 base hits. After an out was recorded, Pepe Mangual started the attack as he drew a walk. Jerry Turner came to the plate and delivered a one-base hit. Turner took second on the throw. Bill Madlock then smacked a single. Bob Watson was up next and he slapped a base-hit. Watson took second on the throw. Reggie Smith stepped into the box and was walked intentionally to load the bases. Jerry Grote added his contribution to the rally and banged out a single. Kimberton had just 5 hits for the night. The win went to Wayne Twitchell(2-1) who allowed 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings. Rawly Eastwick(5-10) absorbed the loss in relief. Rich Pawlak was in great spirits in his post-game interview. Yet, when asked about his feelings after the thrilling comeback victory, he volunteered, 'I'll tell you this much - I know how my counterpart, John Young, feels right now - and it's not very good. It's terrible when you come up on the short end of one of these!' Elverson was unable to recover after Devault went ahead in the bottom of the 5th inning when they tallied 2 runs on 4 hits. For the game Devault out-hit Elverson 12-9. The win was credited to Lynn McGlothen(10-9) who went 6 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs. Jim Barr(11-14) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. The game was won by Honey Brook when they scored a run in the top of the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Jay Johnstone stroked a base-hit. After another out, Hernandez stepped up to the plate and he stole second base. Willie Stargell then was walked intentionally. Doug Rader followed next and he singled. Chester Springs went down quietly in the bottom of the 9th. Koosman(11-6), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Tom Seaver(13-7) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 5 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. 'It felt really nice to get this win,' Koosman said. 'I kind of dictated the game. It's what I get paid to do. It worked out this time.' GLENMOORE AT LIONVILLE, 1st Stableboys...... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 1 9 0 Tiger-Cats...... 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 5 1 Win:Kison(13-5) Loss:Montefusco(13-10) Save:Reed(17th) At Foster Field, the Lionville faithful were treated to an intriguing pitcher's duel. Bruce Kison(13-5) finally bested his Glenmoore counterpart, John Montefusco(13-10), 2-1. In the 3rd inning Lionville scored 2 runs when they had 3 base hits. That early run support was enough for Kison and Lionville. Glenmoore had a chance in the 9th but they came up short. Ron Reed recorded the save, his 17th. The losing pitcher was Montefusco. He gave up just 2 runs and 5 hits in 8 innings. 'I always am most impressed when a pitcher finds a way to win even without his best stuff,' Jon Brams said after the game. 'Kison did not have command of his pitches most of the night, but he proved he really knew how to pitch!' GLENMOORE AT LIONVILLE, 2nd Stableboys...... 0 0 0 0 0 4 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 4 9 2 Tiger-Cats...... 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 5 13 1 Win:Leon(1-1) Loss:Reuschel(3-5) Homeruns- W.Montanez(6th) Greg Luzinski had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Ron Reed delivered 5 solid innings at Foster Field as the indomitable Lionville club beat the floundering Glenmoore Stableboys in 17 innings 5-4. The game was deadlocked at 4 after nine full innings. Lionville won the hard fought contest in the 17th inning. Chris Speier tripled. Joe Morgan was next and he drew a walk. Morgan was safe on a stolen base. Ted Simmons followed next and he lined a one-base hit making Lionville the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Lionville had 13 hits overall, while Glenmoore had 9. Max Leon(1-1) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Paul Reuschel(3-5) was hit with the loss in relief. He surrendered 4 hits and 1 walk in 4 innings.
