Eagle came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs. Dan Driessen led off and started the rally when he drew a walk. One out later, Darrel Chaney got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim. Dick Allen then smashed a two-run homer giving Eagle the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Marshallton had 10 hits in the game while Eagle had 4, but Eagle had the more timely hits. Chip Lang(5-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. The loss was charged to Rawly Eastwick(5-8) in relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit and 1 walk. 'That was exciting!,' Allen said. 'I would have paid money to watch this one.' GUTHRIESVILLE AT KIMBERTON Golddiggers..... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 0 - 2 4 0 Firefighters.... 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 - 3 12 0 Win:Demery(6-6) Loss:Kaat(5-20) Save:Lockwood(28th) Larry Demery didn't allow a hit until the 8th inning and center fielder Pepe Mangual had 3 base hits as the Kimberton Firefighters topped the ice-cold Guthriesville Golddiggers 3-2 at Kimberton Fairground. Demery(6-6) delivered a fine performance for Kimberton. He went 7 and 1/3 innings surrendering 3 hits and 4 walks. The right-handed Demery lost his chance for a no-hitter when Dave Rosello singled with nobody out in the 8th inning. Kimberton had 12 hits for the game and Guthriesville had 4. Demery was helped out by Skip Lockwood who recorded his 28th save. Jim Kaat(5-20) ended up with the loss. He gave up 12 hits and no walks in 7 and 2/3 innings. Chester Springs claimed the early lead in the first inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After two outs Rick Monday started the rally when he drew a walk. Dave Winfield came next and he stroked a one-base hit. Gary Thomasson then doubled. That was all the offense they were to need. Chester Springs had a total of 12 hits for the game. The winning pitcher was Seaver(12-6) who allowed 1 run for the game. Bill Bonham(6-9) was hit with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings. Elverson put a big number on the board in the 8th inning, which proved too much for Honey Brook to overcome when they exploded for 8 runs on 3 hits. The highlight belonged to Mike Schmidt who elicited a roar from the hometown fans when he emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun. Honey Brook out-hit Elverson 13-7, but Elverson ended up with more runs. The victory was credited to Al Hrabosky(7-3) who went 3 and 1/3 innings, allowing no runs. John D'Acquisto(1-6) was tagged with the loss in relief. LIONVILLE AT DEVAULT Tiger-Cats...... 1 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 - 5 10 1 Dynamiters...... 0 1 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 2 5 0 Win:Carlton(16-4) Loss:Fryman(7-12) Homeruns- T.Simmons(3rd), J.Wynn(15th), K.Reitz(3rd), B.Robinson(23rd) Steve Carlton went the distance at Great Valley Stadium where the Lionville club beat the Devault Dynamiters 5-2. Carlton(16-4) gave Lionville a solid outing. He allowed just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Devault was set down quietly in the bottom of the 9th. Woodie Fryman(7-12) was charged with the loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings.
