Ellis Valentine knocked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Elverson Squires beat
the Kimberton Firefighters 7-5.
 
The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Valentine.  He ripped a solo home run in the 1st inning, bombed a
two-run dinger in the 3rd inning and hit a single in the 7th inning.
Elverson ended up with 12 hits for the game while Kimberton had 9.  
 
Al Hrabosky(6-2) got the win allowing 1 run in 2 innings. Don Carrithers(6-8)
was the loser in relief.  He allowed 3 hits and 1 walk in 1 and 1/3 innings.

Catcher Bob Boone hit one over the fence and had 2 RBI at Four Dogs Field as
the Chester Springs team beat the Marshallton Mad Hatters 4-2.
 
Chester Springs won the game with a rally in the top of the 9th inning scoring
2 runs.  After two were out Mike Jorgensen keyed the rally when he reached on
an error.  Jose Cardenal came to the plate and drew a walk.  Larry Bowa then
lashed a single.  Bowa took second on the throw.  Rick Monday followed next
and he was walked intentionally to load the bases.  Dave Winfield came up to
bat and drew a walk.  Chester Springs totaled 8 hits on the night.  
 
Tom Seaver(11-6) was the winner allowing 2 runs in 8 innings. Seaver got help
from Charlie Hough who earned his 28th save.  The losing pitcher was J.R.
Richard(11-10).

Woodie Fryman(7-11) and Ray Burris(8-18) locked horns in a pitcher's duel with
Fryman and the Devault Dynamiters coming out on top of the struggling Honey
Brook Beekeepers 3-1.
 
Devault tallied 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning.  The biggest moment was
provided by Craig Reynolds who silenced The Nest as he blasted a two-run home
run.  Devault managed 8 hits in their victory.  
 
Bruce Sutter earned the save, his 26th.
 
GLENMOORE AT GUTHRIESVILLE

First baseman Willie Montanez cracked a homer and had 2 RBI at Hopewell Field
as the Glenmoore Stableboys beat the hapless Guthriesville Golddiggers 8-6.
 
Glenmoore scored 4 runs in the top of the 4th inning when they came up with 4
base hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Johnny Bench who deflated the
mood of the partisan fans when he lost the ball over the fence for three
runs.  Glenmoore finished with 11 hits in the victory.  
 
Bill Bonham(6-8) allowed 4 runs in 6 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Gene Garber recorded his 28th save.  Larry Christenson(3-11) was hit
with the loss.  He served up 3 gopher balls in 6 and 1/3 innings.
