Renko(9-7) put on a good performance. He allowed only 7 hits and no walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 4.31 to 4.03. Marshallton totaled 13 hits on the afternoon. Pat Zachry(9-9) was the losing pitcher. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 12 hits and 4 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. GUTHRIESVILLE AT KIMBERTON, 1st Golddiggers..... 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 7 0 Firefighters.... 0 0 0 0 0 6 0 0 - 6 9 0 Win:Lonborg(12-9) Loss:Christenson(3-12) Catcher Jerry Grote had 2 base hits and Jim Lonborg tossed a complete game at Kimberton Fairground as the Kimberton Firefighters beat the awful Guthriesville Golddiggers 6-1. Kimberton did all of it's offensive work in the 6th inning when they scored 6 runs on 6 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Bill Madlock who made the home-town crowd a happy bunch when he laced a one-base hit plating two runs. Kimberton banged out 9 hits on the afternoon. Lonborg(12-9) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Larry Christenson(3-12) took the loss. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 3 hits and 3 walks. GUTHRIESVILLE AT KIMBERTON, 2nd Golddiggers..... 3 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 3 - 7 12 0 Firefighters.... 7 2 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 9 15 0 Win:Carrithers(7-8) Loss:Foster(1-4) Save:Lockwood(29th) Homeruns- K.Hernandez-2(6th) In a good matchup it was the Kimberton Firefighters 9, the Guthriesville Golddiggers 7 at Kimberton Fairground. Don Carrithers(7-8) pitched okay, well enough for the win. He surrendered 12 hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings and surrendered 2 'long-bombs'. Guthriesville threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short. Carrithers got help from Skip Lockwood who was credited with his 29th save. Alan Foster(1-4) was charged with the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 1/3 of an inning. First baseman Keith Hernandez smashed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI but it wasn't enough for Guthriesville. GLENMOORE AT CHESTER SPRINGS Stableboys...... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 0 3 1 Two-Fivers...... 0 0 0 1 2 1 0 0 - 4 9 0 Win:Rooker(6-9) Loss:Lacorte(5-7) Jim Rooker pitched a 3 hit shutout and Bob Boone had 2 base hits as the Chester Springs team defeated the Glenmoore Stableboys 4-0 at Historic Village Park. Rooker(6-9) dominated Glenmoore hitters. He surrendered only 3 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.97 to 4.68. Chester Springs rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon. Frank Lacorte(5-7) suffered the loss. He allowed 6 hits and 7 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. HONEY BROOK AT ELVERSON Beekeepers...... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 1 5 1 Squires......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 2 - 2 5 2 Win:Sosa(3-2) Loss:McGraw(7-6) John Denny had an impressive outing at French Creek Park where the Elverson Squires beat the Honey Brook Beekeepers in 11 innings 2-1. Neither team managed to score in the first 10 innings. Elverson won the hard fought contest in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Tim Foli got things rolling when he reached on an error. Jerry Davanon stepped up to the plate and he tripled. One out later, Mike Tyson came up and he laced a base-knock. Both teams ended up with 5 hits on the afternoon. Elias Sosa(3-2) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Tug McGraw(7-6) ended up with the loss in relief. He surrendered 2 hits and no walks in 1/3 of an inning. LIONVILLE AT DEVAULT Tiger-Cats...... 2 0 0 1 0 0 1 2 0 - 6 11 1 Dynamiters...... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 - 1 3 1 Win:Hooton(14-5) Loss:Matlack(11-8) Homeruns- C.Reynolds(7th) Ken Reitz had 4 hits and Burt Hooton threw a 3 hitter as the Lionville ballclub defeated the Devault Dynamiters 6-1 at Great Valley Stadium. Hooton(14-5) was simply too much for the Devault batters. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 3 hits and no walks in 9 innings. Lionville finished with 11 hits in the victory. Jon Matlack(11-8) was tagged with the loss. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a good groove.' Hooton said after the game. 'I'm ready to start another game tomorrow!'
