The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Kimberton came out on top in the 13th inning. Jerry Mumphrey drew a walk. Greg Gross stepped up next and he reached on an error. Bob Watson then drew a walk to load the bases. Bill Madlock dug into the batters box next, but he struck out. Jerry Grote stepped into the box and drew a walk making Kimberton the winners and sending the 861 fans home happy. Despite losing, Honey Brook out-hit Kimberton 10-7. Carl Morton(5-6) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. John D'Acquisto(1-7) took the loss in relief. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 and 2/3 innings of work. Devault scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. Richie Zisk doubled. After an out was recorded, Darrell Evans came to bat and slapped a one-base hit giving Devault the win as 171 happy fans joyfully celebrated. Devault finished with 8 hits in the victory. Matlack(12-8) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Rawly Eastwick(5-9) was given the loss in relief. 'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a good groove.' Matlack said after the game. 'I'm ready to start another game tomorrow!' In the 5th inning Elverson scored 5 runs with the help of 4 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Milner who quieted the crowd when he cleared the bases with a Grand Slam homerun. Elverson managed 10 hits in their victory. Jim Barr(11-13) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. Barr got relief help from Al Hrabosky who gained credit for his 13th save. The loss was charged to Phil Niekro(11-12). He got hammered, allowing 8 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings. EAGLE AT GUTHRIESVILLE Eagles.......... 0 1 0 2 2 0 0 0 1 - 6 11 1 Golddiggers..... 0 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 0 - 2 4 0 Win:Sutton(13-7) Loss:Messersmith(6-11) Homeruns- D.Allen(17th), E.Cabell(2nd) Don Sutton tossed a complete game as the Eagle Eagles defeated the Guthriesville Golddiggers 6-2 at Hopewell Field. Eagle went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning plating an isolated run utilizing 2 base hits. Eagle had 11 hits for the night. The victory was credited to Sutton(13-7) who went the distance, allowing 2 runs. Andy Messersmith(6-11) suffered the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 11 hits and 7 walks in 8 innings. LIONVILLE AT GLENMOORE Tiger-Cats...... 0 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 2 - 3 6 2 Stableboys...... 3 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 - 4 9 1 Win:Rhoden(10-6) Loss:Jones(21-7) Save:Lavelle(3rd) 1,242 fans watched an exciting game at Bentley Stadium. The Glenmoore Stableboys topped the Lionville club by the slimmest of margins, 4-3. The game started off with Glenmoore taking the lead in the first scoring 3 runners on 4 hits. Lionville made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. Rick Rhoden(10-6) allowed 1 run in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Gary Lavelle gained credit for his 3rd save. Randy Jones(21-7) was the loser. 'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Rhoden said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'
