May 2, 1976 Recaps

EAGLE AT MARSHALLTON

Don Sutton retired 10 batters on strikeouts as the Eagle Eagles (9-10) bested the
Marshallton Mad Hatters (9-10) in 11 innings 7-4 at Four Dogs Field.
 
The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings.  Eagle ended up winning it in
the 11th inning.  The key offensive moment was provided by Bruce Boisclair
who deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he lined a single which was
good for two runs.  Eagle and Marshallton each finished the afternoon with 12
hits.  
 
Sutton(3-1) allowed 4 runs in 10 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory.
Randy Moffitt earned his 8th save.  Bruce Dal Canton(0-1) was charged with
the loss in relief.  He was the victim of a defensive lapse and did not allow
an earned run in the game.  
 
John Young was impressed with Sutton and his 10 strikeouts.  'It's tough to
generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball.'

Gary Matthews had 2 base hits and 3 RBI at The Nest as the Honey Brook
Beekeepers (12-6) won in their last at-bat beating the Elverson Squires (8-11)
by the count of 7-6.
 
The game was won by Honey Brook when they scored a run in the bottom of the
9th inning.  Dave Cash drew a walk.  One out later, Jay Johnstone was the
next batter, but he struck out.  Andre Thornton then reached on an error.
Matthews followed next and he laced a single making Honey Brook the victors
to the delight of the home town faithful.  Elverson out-hit Honey Brook 13 to
7, but Honey Brook ended up with more runs.  
 
Tug McGraw(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Elias
Sosa(0-1) was the loser in relief.  He was a hard-luck loser, pitching 1
inning and not allowing an earned run.  
 
The Honey Brook ballclub's record now stands at a league leading 12-6.  With
the loss Elverson now has a record of 8-11.

In a good matchup it was the Devault Dynamiters (11-6) 4, the Glenmoore
Stableboys (8-8) 1 at Bentley Stadium.
 
Devault scored 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning with the help of 3 hits.
That was all the offense they were to need.  Although they lost, Glenmoore
did out-hit Devault 10 to 5.  
 
The victory was credited to Tommy John(1-0) who went 7 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 1 run. John got help from Bruce Sutter who was credited with his 5th
save.  Mickey Lolich(2-1) took the loss.

Willie Montanez had 2 base hits at Bentley Stadium as the Glenmoore
Stableboys (9-8) beat the Devault Dynamiters (11-7) 7-2.
 
Glenmoore took the lead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning when they
came up with 2 runs on 2 hits.  Overall Glenmoore out-hit Devault 12 to 6.
 
The winning pitcher was John Montefusco(2-2) who allowed 1 run in 7 and 1/3
innings. Gary Lavelle gained credit for his 1st save.  Joaquin Andujar(1-2)
was tagged with the loss.  
 
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT GUTHRIESVILLE, 1st

At Hopewell Field, the Guthriesville (6-11) fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel.
Jim Kaat(2-1) finally bested his Chester Springs (8-10) opposite, Tom Seaver(1-1),
by the score of 2-1.
 
Guthriesville had 2 runs cross the plate in the 4th inning when they had 4
base hits.  Cesar Cedeno opened up the scoring as he smashed a bases-empty
'big-fly'.  Bobby Murcer came next and he ripped a base-hit.  Duffy Dyer was
next to the plate, but was promptly struck out.  Champ Summers followed and
he delivered a one-base hit.  Ron Fairly stepped into the box and doubled.
Enos Cabell got his turn next, but he was a strikeout victim.  Guthriesville
had just 6 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Ken Forsch preserved the game for Kaat, recording his his 2nd.  The losing
pitcher was Seaver.  He surrendered 6 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.  
 
 
CHESTER SPRINGS AT GUTHRIESVILLE, 2nd

The Chester Springs (9-10) ballclub plated 7 runs in the 6th inning and cruised
to a 10-4 victory over the Guthriesville Golddiggers (6-12) at 
Hopewell Field.
 
Chester Springs scored 7 runs in the decisive top of the 6th inning when they
had 3 base hits.  The key at-bat was by Lee Lacy who silenced the crowd when
he tripled clearing all three ducks off the pond.  Chester Springs rapped out
9 hits for the afternoon.  
 
Jim Rooker(1-3) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs for the victory. Larry
Dierker(0-4) was the losing pitcher.  He was knocked around, surrendering 8
runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.  
 
 
KIMBERTON AT LIONVILLE, 1st

Steve Carlton completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
Lionville (11-6) ballclub topped the Kimberton Firefighters (7-11)
by a score of 5-1 at Foster Field.
 
Lionville tallied 3 runs in the 5th inning with the help of 3 hits.  The
biggest moment was provided by Joe Morgan who brought the crowd to their feet
when he bombed a two-run dinger.  Lionville totaled 8 hits on the afternoon.
 
The win went to Carlton(3-0) who allowed 1 run in the game. Jim Lonborg(2-2)
absorbed the loss.  He allowed 8 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.  
 
 
KIMBERTON AT LIONVILLE, 2nd

Randy Jones allowed Jon Brams to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as
the Lionville (12-6) team topped the Kimberton Firefighters (7-12) by a
score of 5-3 at Foster Field.
 
Kimberton was unable to claim the lead after Lionville went ahead in the
bottom of the 4th inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits.  The highlight
belonged to Greg Luzinski who made the Lionville fans a happy lot when he
clubbed a two-run home run.  Lionville banged out 7 hits on the afternoon.
 
Jones(5-0) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Larry Demery(1-2) was
charged with the loss.  With this win, Lionville has a 12-6 record.  They
have been 6-4 lately.  Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Kimberton is 2-8
lately and 7-12 on the year.
